photo series

Ever look back over your photos to see similarities between different times? I like finding little goodies like these - doorway photos - they tell great individual stories and cool stories over a period of time. Here's one from this last week on the coast and one from last Easter:

Door

and

Door2

Sometimes they are spontaneous and sometimes they become planned - you take a shot, you love it, you repeat it again in a different environment. I love seeing images that do this sort of thing over time. Here's a You Tube video that showcases this idea over time: Me: Girl takes pic of herself every day for three years (updated link). I can imagine tons of different ways this could play out in scrapbooking. Goes along great with the idea of an album in progress - one that will never be done until you are gone (or you stop creating). Love that idea of a chronicle that looks at something very specific over time. Maybe I could take a photo of Simon eating breakfast everyday - mundane but remarkably beautiful.

Lots of thoughts mulling around in my head today. The camera is in hand and I am ready.

I'm not sure how many people will see this, but I just went to the dalai mama blog that Ali posted the link to the other day. You have to read it. I laughed so hard I have tears in my eyes. I had no idea that someone else may have children as strange and wonderful as mine, but her kids are a real hoot!

Love the photos, Ali :) And speaking of that video you linked...have you seen this one? It's a parody on the girl's video and is hilarious. :)

Since my son was born 2 1/2 years ago I have been taking "self portraits" of us - camera held at arm's length. It's really neat to see the changes in him (and to a lesser degree, in me), plus a lot of the angles are funky and sometimes one of our heads is cut off a bit. They're very 'come what may'. Some day, on an important anniversary (5 years?) I'll make it into a funky mini book. For now he watches 'us' on a slideshow in iPhoto. Cool.

we always took pictures of our girls in front of the door while they were growing up for first day of school. . .used first day of K with first day of senior year on a page.
oh to have taken more pics when they were growing up; that's my biggest advice to young moms. . .take pictures of the everyday!

earlier this year i took part in self-portrait challenge's (it was SPT then) of time and took a polaroid of myself drinking tea every single day the entire month of march. it was a very interesting experience. by the third or fourth day i was starting to shed the judgement. and using the polaroid was so different than the digital camera because i didn't want to "waste" film so i had to let go of waiting for the perfect picture. reading this tonight has inspired me to think about doing this again. maybe for the month of december...
as always, thanks for the inspiration ali. coming here always fills me up.

Another day of inspiration on the AE blog. How do you do it? ROCKING!
You know what I love about the 2 photos? To see how much Simon has grown. And that his stance hasnt changed much.
I love taking photos in the same place, at the same time of year, of the same person. But just as much, places can change too. Trees fall, buildings get renos, etc. Time marches on!!

This is a great idea....I've been doing this of my night table beside my bed. It captures the little toys that my kids leave, or a note my oldest has written, and of course all of my varying reading piles!! You can see my interests evolve and it's just an amazing thing to see.
I especially love those two of Simon in the doorway. I can totally see these with another future shot in a vertical photography series hanging on the wall in your house!

I take a photo of my kids by the front door each "first day of school". My mom did the same. I can not only see their growth, but I can also tell where we were living at the time (14 moves over the years). With 5 kids to document, it helps to have those visual clues to the where and when. But my favorite part of this project is watching their little hands on the doorknobs. They start out just above the head and as the years go by they get lower and lower until they're at the waist or below. Love that.

    Hi Ali;
Love the photos of Simon and the doorways.
Here is my submission from the last challange, I used Kristina Contes from the Dares" "Thankful" as the one I scraplifted her style. I really loved doing this, even though the 5th wheel was covered in paper.
    Have a great weekend.

I was thinking that -- as my daughters grow taller and taller -- we should do family pictures from far enough away to showcase their changes in height against what should remain the same -- a 5'8" mom and a 6'6" dad. The 9 year old is nearly 4'10" and the 5 year old is 4' even. I can't wait to be the shortest in my family!!!!

I just did a layout with my son and a friend playing outside -two very similar photos- a month apart, but the weather had changed dramatically, I love the way it turned out.

A happy accident occurred a few years ago
when going through old photos and I discovered
that I had "sleeping" photos of all three(at that time "all") of my children. They're spread out ten years between the first two and
ten months between the second and third.
Now we've added sweet Rosey to the mix and once I get a "sleeping" photo of her, it will,
no doubt, be this mother's favorite all time
    page...ever!!! I've altered the three other's
to sepia tone, to add a timelessness.
One of those projects that I'm glad I procrastinated on, or else the page would have been incomplete, as Rosey was a total
    surprise!!!

I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me today. I have a to do list a mile long. But I took a minute to catch up on your posts of the last few days and checked out some of the links you provided. Needless to say, I was inspired. I put everything aside and captured my babies on "film" for a while. The results are priceless - and will last forever. Thanks for the artistic push.
