December Daily® 2020 | Story Eight

Welcome to December Daily® 2020 | Story Eight.

Today's story is a little bit of writing about my own working life in December.

Today's video is full of me making mistakes + trying different things + muttering to myself +finally embracing the end result. I know I'm not alone in running into issues when creating + I want to make sure you guys know I'm right there with you! I hope you find a few moments to laugh during the video.

Let's start with the process video:

Now let's take a look at my finished page via photos:

This simple page surprisingly took me way longer than I expected. My initial plan didn't work (you'll see that in the video) so I pivoted and ended up with a page that focuses more than anything on the words + photos.

I've got a small laser printer here at home and I set up my page with the "working" word art on top (download available for you below). After printing with the laser printer I ran the title through the Minc machine with green foil and then I ran the page with the title back through the printer to add my journaling.

Along the edge I added one of the Fabric Half-Circle phrases

My photo was printed to 6 inches x 3 inches and adhered along the bottom of the journaling. Between the photo and journaling I used red line tape to adhere my light green pom trim on top.

I cut off one of the poms and used green embroidery floss to attach one of the gold stars from the Main Kit and a Crate Paper Charm

You could also print both your title + journaling at the same time before running it through a Minc machine. I decided I just wanted the title foiled.

And in the end:

I cut the poms off. Ha. Yep. That's how it all went down today.

I wish I had discovered the "turn of work" key before I did. Before retirement I worked for a community action agency designing & operating programs for the poor & disadvantaged. There was always something to finish.

I think you could have made triangle cuts on the patterned paper to bypass the around the rings on the top to make the flip up work?

Yep! Totally couldn't think of that in the moment but will definitely remember it for the future.

Thank you for the word art! I'm curious what markers you use to create your word art. I love your handwriting, but I have kind of been toying around with trying to create some of my own. Thanks!

EDIT - you answered in the video for day 9! Yay!

I laughed out loud when you said "I need someone to just stand here and watch me" - thanks for being so relatable.

That font definitely reminds me of my mom's old typewriter. We had to clean out the inside of the "o" and "e" and "g" etc. using a sharp pin or needle as the fuzz from the ribbon accumulated in the keys.

These are the videos I like the best. The whole thought process...mistakes and all! Thanks Ali!
