AE WORKKSHOP 003 | STORYOLOGY

DESCRIPTION | A motivational, process-based presentation showcasing my favorite techniques to get words into my scrapbooks. My hope is that after completing the class you will be inspired to tell more of your own personal stories. Please note that this is a lecture and prompt based class. There is no specific project you will be creating.

TOPICS INCLUDED | The reason why, getting ready to write, story mechanics, rhythms, etc. This class includes six different writing prompts and you are encouraged to take the time during the presentation to write your responses to those prompts (pause the video and then resume when you are ready).

SUPPLY LIST | Handout, a pen, and a willingness to be open to telling more of the stories of your life.

This self-paced workshop includes:

  • PROCESS + APPROACH PRESENTATION | A 2-hour keynote video (1 hour, 55 minutes without taking time for the prompts) that walks you through my approach for telling the stories of my life. The first half of the presentation addresses the why: encouragement and motivation for writing your stories. The second half focuses on the how. Sprinkled throughout the presentation are writing prompts.
  • HANDOUT | A full-color, 7-page PDF handout plus 6 additional pages for responding to the prompts.

WORKSHOP FEEDBACK

FROM SUE | Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how simply fantastic your class is; I have watched the whole video and done all the assignments and feel totally empowered.

FROM KIM VIA TWITTER | One hour into @aliedwards Storyology’s video and I am feeling energized and confident about my role as a storyteller and writer. Thank you!

FROM SANDRA | Oh Ali, Thank you for opening my eyes! I just loved the class. I bought it yesterday and started right away and finished it this morning. I have never written so much. Especially with the “Remember” prompt. I had so much fun and also a bit of a down moment. But that oke, because that’s part of my life right now. I loved how you explained everything just so simple. I always tuck the journaling away under a photo or a tab but now I know, I don’t have to be afraid. It will also help me finishing “a week in the life.”  So thank you for giving me the reason I scrapbook back!

FROM JENNIFER | I just finished this class. I loved it! I can’t believe I actually wrote my first letter, I have five things about me, I have an “I want to remember” page completely filled, and a list of 13 more stories to make layouts. Wow, thanks so much for reminding me why I scrapbook and to write my ideas down before I forget.

FROM IRENE | This course has been such an inspiration. There is always a fear of ‘not being good enough’ when starting to write and it has blocked me in the past. You have shown me the importance of letting go of that fear and given me some techniques to overcome it. Last year, I participated in your Yesterday/Today course on BPC and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My concerns were different then in that I was writing in an album for only the family and not a wider audience. Since that time, I have started to blog and that was really when I began to doubt what I was writing. I cannot thank you enough for showing me the importance of writing the story and not worrying about what other people think. They are my stories and it matters to me that I write them before they are forgotten.

FROM CLAUDIA | I finished watching the video and I am super inspired. I am not a “traditional scrapper” but I am a “project lifer” and have had such a difficult time writing on those little notecards. I keep up with your blog posts about project life and am truly inspired by the way you write and document your family’s everyday. Thank you for such an awesome class. I am now going to start documenting with pictures AND words.  I love taking pictures and documenting our life but now I will add those special words that give context to our daily lives. Once again thank you for your class and blog.

FROM TONI | Thank you so much that was AWESOME. I really enjoyed doing that. I am so grateful. Sat down to do it the minute we got all the kids in bed and am super grateful my little one has slept the whole time I did it and literally woke as you were wrapping it up. I really really wanted to thank you for being so inspiring, practical, easy to relate to. You are truly gifted in what you do and I really appreciate how you take the time to put together such fantastic resources for us to learn from so easily.

FROM JANET | I just sat down tonight to listen and take part in the Storyology class. I can’t thank you enough for such a wonderful class. It spoke to me in so many ways.  Many of the reasons you listed for why people do not write were right on for me: I was afraid, didn’t think I was a good writer. This year, I have been struggling with “Why should I bother”. I don’t have any children, so “who will care.” I now see that doing it for me is a good enough reason. I am an old fashioned letter writing girl and send letters out to family and friends pretty regularly. I could write a letter to someone I do not know, no problem, I just never transitioned that writing into my memory keeping. So thank you again for a really awesome class!

FROM CHERYL | Just finished Storyology and wanted to say thank you. I hated writing in school and college, but always got excellent grades. I thought it took too much time to get everything organized and rewritten (sometimes 3 or 4 times). It took this class to show me I was just making it WAY too hard! The prompts helped me put everything in perspective… and before I knew it my hand was cramping because I didn’t want to stop writing. Thanks for the encouragement and keep doing what you do!
