Tags:Just a quick follow up from yesterday. Loved reading all your comments & I am so excited that many of you will be joining me in the Art Journal Challenge.
Wanted to answer a couple questions:
1. My art journal cover: The image I posted yesterday is a cropped portion of the cover. After scanning it in I added a couple of Rhonna's digital brushes in Photoshop (the circle elements and the very faint white words) for display on here. Per Claudine Hellmuth's awesome book: Collage Discovery Workshop, I am using gel medium as my adhesive - along with one of my standbys: staples. I like the idea of using scraps of things from my layouts and other goodies like wax paper with dried paint (leftover from paint on a layout I think). Messed up photo prints (like the pears) are also cool - might as well turn those mistakes into art!
Claudine also has a new book coming out in August 2005:Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected. Her first book has great practical instructions/techniques for getting started in collage/art journals/mixed media. I looked at it again last night and was totally inspired all over again.
2. Melanie asked about how I am organizing my blog print outs. Pretty simple - in a large three ring binder with tabs for each month.
And, Laura, thanks for making my day.
I am off to the dentist - FUN - hoping to write more later today.

Your art journal cover is beautiful. In regards to your comment about the messed up pears photo print--my very first art teacher had a motto that she shared with us in every class. "There is no such thing as a 'mistake' in art--you just need to use that 'mistake' to your advantage." Her words have echoed in my mind over and over through the years (although I don't always heed it--that perfectionist nature keeps trying to creep out and get in the way).
Hope your dentist visit is as pleasurable as possible. :)

After reading about art journals and looking at all the great material, I'm feeling inspired to try something myself. I sometimes feel like I've forgotten how to be creative - too much life getting in the way. So I'm trying to do something creative every day this week - just for me - a hard thing with two of the four kids home sick and studying for exams - but so far so good. Starting a weblog was a good beginning. Now I'm moving on to some more tactile things.

Dentist. Ugh. My least fav thing ever. Good luck!
Your journal is very inspiring! I have debated about buying the Collage Discovery book on several occasions. I just don't feel I have enough artist in me. Maybe I just need to let that go. I can't wait to see your amazing results in any case. :)

You'll love anything by Claudine. She's amazing...talented and very sweet geniune person. Been doing art jounals all my life and I think it's great a lot of scrappers are reaching out in other art mediums. I'm newer to scrappin' than most (well the mainstream scrappin' way that is). Loved your journal cover. AWESOME! Wish I was talented enough with PS to do something similar. Keep up the great work.
