Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My fav technique is still good old paints... It gives so much texture, it takes on a different look and form each time, I like that imperfect mark each time, I like that it is different each time I use it!

Right now Im really into to my sewing machine, which has only been used for paper! I better learn how to use it because I was sewing through plastic and broke the needle in half :) something about tension... :)

I have been wanting to try stamping with bubble wrap for so long but just never got to it - seems I do a lot of "not getting to it" - but this week I did it on a journal page, again on a calendar page and yet again on a scrapbook page. What a great effect! So in celebration, winning this book would just be the perfect reward for trying something new.

my favorite creative technique these days is using actions on my photos before printing and also creating photo collages. I start with the photos when I create so its been pretty inspiring working with them.
thanks for this give-away chance!

Hi, Ali,
Thanks for the great giveaway.
Mixed media is what I love - working with paint, chipboard, transparencies . . . anything else that adds dimension to my scrapbook pages. I’ve been adding strips of my grandmother’s crocheting to a few of my pages. But really love paint and ink. . . .

My fave technique lately - a creative one - is making sure my handwriting telling the story is somewhere on every scrapbook page I create. I believe in the story behind the pictures, and to me, the telling of the story is what is most important. It's the writer in me.

Well I like to make my own homemade rubons...this technique is a little different. I layout images in Illustrator, flip them backwards, then print them on a lazer printer (can be copied too, anything that uses toner) on regular white paper. Then I place the image side down where ever i want to transfer the image. Use a chartpak or DESIGN colorless blender to color over where the image is on the white side of the paper, use my finger nail to scratch the image and carefully lift up. You can transfer onto metal, glass, fabric, paper, wood whatever...works awesome. Enjoy!

My favorite technique these days is to copy a chipboard form or letter in some leftover of pattern paper to do my titles and decoration.

Love bling! Stickles glitter glue; can't live without and my stamps. Have been playing around with acrylic paint too on my scrapbook pages. Good luck with the new baby!

I'm into scrapbooking and rubber stamping. Scrapbooking allows me to record my family's history, everyday moments, and come to terms with some issues that have been bugging me. I incorporate stamping into my books.

Lately, I have been working on mini-books. They allow me to use many photos to convey those events/travels where I was a little "camera happy".
Thank you for the opportunity to win this book!

My favorite creative technique/process lately has to do with photo editing. I've been really trying to improve and refine and be a little more creative when I do things to my photos.

Right now I am into collaging the embellishments and journaling space together in an 'artsy' way. I admire other people's work when they do this. I especially love the office supply type stickers for journal space...using the small ones and continuing from sticker to sticker, with buttons, brads, fabric etc... combined in a grouping.

My favorite creative technique right now is what I did before scrapbooking...cutting images out of magazines and glueing them into a small journal. Playing around with different images and putting them together always gets the creative ideas going!
