Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

Our local Hobby Lobby had this H U G E sale of 10 printed papers for $1. I spent $2 and got a world of color inspiration to choose from... inspiration comes in the strangest places... just from a piece of paper!

Those books sound great Ali - I find it's always inspiring to get new ideas and new perspective on materials we've had forever! My favourite technique these days is adding layers of colour with acrylic glaze medium. Thanks for the recommendations on the new books!

I love scrapbooking but lately I've been more interested with doing art journal & ATC so I've been looking around for good books. Thanks for sharing which ones I should look into.

I LOVE using ribbon and journaling tags!! LOVE LOVE IT! However I feel my photographs are the most important piece to my pages or projects, so finding great ways to use those is very important to me. I also thrive on making jewelry, photography, drawing - I pretty much use my creativity as a stress outlet, and with my husband being laid off recently, there is LOTS of stress!!! ... I would love a copy of Taking Flight for inspiration and encouragement! PICK ME! PICK ME! :) :) :)

I like to use my own handwriting as much as possible. Not only has my handwriting improved, but it's a personal bit of me that can't be duplicated by any pre-made embellishement.

Of late, my creative outlet has been journaling. My camera is out for repair and can't wait to get it back as I really like to take pics. I have been inspired by Kelly Rae's blog and would really like her book. Thanks for the opportunity to win the book. Peace. Danette Parrish

Hi Ali! I am in my mini book phase and I like to experiment with different techniques in each book. recently it was an elaborate stencil with paint for the back cover; or alcohol ink on acrylic pages; or ribbon + felt+ buttons. Art feeds my soul!!

Free expressing.
I have been a perfectionist all my life and it limited me terribly when it came to creative arts.
Now, I am diving into things differently... with more abandon and less regard to "rules" of how it should go or look.
This is in my writing, journaling, scrapbooking, painting and more.

Lately I have been working with glitter, paint and making all my projects have a 3D effect.

My favorite technique lately is edge distressing, using eith scissors or an edge distressor. I love the added texture and dimension, especially when those pieces are pop-dotted up.
My other favorite thing to do lately is make atc's! I am on a board (www.allmomentsremembered.com) with a group of girls and we are all addicted to atcs. We have an inchie craze too, but those are a little small for me.

Hi Ali,
Thanks for the generous giveaway.
At the risk of going slightly 'off topic', my creative outlet currently is cooking. I've rediscovered the joy of baking, jam making and am about to try making beetroot chutney! Hoping that a change from papercrafting (and maybe a dash of inspiration from a great new book?) will help to refresh my scrapping.
