Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My favorite lately has been working on my first art journal -- playing with watercolor crayons, poppets, different journaling (telling my story) for me and just enjoying the whole process of creating something that makes me feel good. michelle

First of all I have been waiting for this book!! I found her on Etsy then saw the book at CHA-Soooo excited! Anyway, on to my creative technique...
I am a lover of words. Words excite me, make me happy and make my brain swirl and twirl around with ideas. These days as I'm creating my layouts I think more about my choice of words to convey the emotions/the feelings I'm wanting to get across rather than the "stuff". I find myself being a "simple" scrapper these days, too. I just want to get what is important on the pages and for me that is the WORDS.
Thanks, Ali. You are GREAT!!!

I have been struggling with apathy about a lot of things lately, due to long-term illness. I have just recently begun to feel the pull of creating again. My punches and word stickers are beckoning me to change something.

Mostly working on photos and organization right now, and always journaling. I'm going to take Cathy's Design Your Life class in October at BPS and I'm getting really into scrapbooking again.

I love to combine scrapbooking with all different kinds of techniques. I love using acrylic paints. I would really like to learn more about mixed media. That always looks sooooo good!

My latest creative endeavor is sewing. I used to sew a fair bit, but recently got back into it and am really enjoying the whole process. Are you familiar with Alabama Chanin? It's just spectacular.

Hi Ali,
After a long, dry spell of just looking at a blank paper and feeling uninspired, my mind is again slowly "seeing" what is important to me RIGHT NOW and how I would like to interpret that - I would love to own this book to help my creative thoughts take flight! Thanks for all the inspiration and support!! Love, Maria

oh, art journals. for sure.
though they're more like life journals, with shopping lists and scraps of this and that everywhere...
my favorite new tool is my handwriting font via Fontifier, so i can take something i wrote on the computer and print out what *looks* like handwriting....

Lately I've been all about mod podging tissue paper on whatever I'm altering and then painting over it. Love the texture!

I'd have to say my favorite creative technique these days is incorporating fabrics & other textiles in my scrapbooking projects. Totally inspired by Kelly Rae's work! Thanks for the chance to win her lovely new book.

Mixed media in my scrapbooking. Am loving the hybrid work I've seen lately and have decided that I need to do more of this. My pages tend to be either all paper or all digital. Not anymore!!!

I'm such a traditional scrapbooker, but I love-love-love the digital books I've been doing lately! It's so tempting to stray because it's easy to pull out my computer for a few minutes (I've got three, ages 4 and under) and not have to worry about the kids getting into my stuff.
I'm about to start a digital scrapbook that will be a collection of both of my grandmas and my mom's recipes--so excited!

I am primarily a card maker who also makes mini albums. I have recently gone back to creating jewelry, primarily woven seed bead bracelets - it's like meditation for me! :D
Thanks for the chance!
