Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

...my "favorite creative technique" these days - if to call it technique...
Laying transparent shrinky dink onto parts of photos/ grafics, copying the main lines, baking and and put them after it together (onto scrap page, cards... not decided yet) with these photos...

Hi Ali
You are amazing with your all inspiring ideas and the give aways are always an added bonus!!! My most creative outlet is photography - just using the pictures in fabric quilts, scrapbooking and everywhere in my house!!! Can't get enough of it!!

My favorite technique that I have been playing with lately is trying new things with my photo program. Doctoring up my pictures has been fun. I still print them as originals most always, but this has been a fun creative outlet for me.

I saw some of KellyRae's works from her website. I absolutely love the way she portrays and paints art. :) my favourite technique is simply just drawing and doodling what I felt like doing that moment. simplicity is beautiful.

Hi Ali,
I've been experimenting with adding acrylic paint to photos to wash out backgrounds or distracting items and allowing the main subject to stand alone. It gives the photos a sureal, floating look. I quite like the effect. Works well for encorporating contempory photos into mixed media art/collage.

My favorite techniques recently is layering card stock. I love layering them to create a 3 dimentional look and feel...especially with my die cuts. Here's a card I made with this technique http://scrapsimplescraphappy.blogspot.com/2008/08/simple-yet-fun-greeting-cards.html
The cupcake is 6 layers of cardstock!

I'd love to be entered into the giveaway, thanks!
My favorite technique is slathering gel medium onto watercolour paper and then painting with acrylics. Or paint, gel, paint, gel... until I feel like it's finished.

Thanks for inspiring us. Your letter to Simon today was so sweet. Simon is very lucky to have such loving parents.
Lately, I've been experimenting with using fabric as frames for photos in a layout. I just started trying to paint these frames for a different kind of look. I'm still experimenting. It works well sometimes and sometimes not.

My favorite creative technique right now is photo tinting in photoshop CS2. My baby girl has amazing blue eyes.. and I love desaturating her pics and making her eyes the focus of the picture.

it's writing. pages on pages on pages. Journaling for scrapbooking, prose, fiction, or just writing about what's going on in my life these days. Not you're typical technique, but i think my work is benefiting from it.

I'm not sure if organization fits this topic or not, however, what organization has done for me is made me be able to be more creative BECAUSE I can find what I need when I need it!
