Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My favorite creative technique is just photography right now. Just picking up the camera a bit more and seeing differently...

Hello Ali. Right now, I am into scrapbooking and venturing out to its openess of different medias. As a child I loved creating with acrylic paints and I am very happy to see that modern scrapbooking uses this tool. I love introducing my girls to the world of acrylics and scrapbooking. It makes me so happy to share my childhood favorite with them.

Right now at this moment, I am playing with all my kids art supplies with them. The other day I did a cute little painting that I turned out to love, just out of cheap kids cake water colors. Its really getting back to basics!

My favorite technique is using my "stash"! There's plenty of little embellies & patterned paper hidden away in my scraproom. I've made lots of mini-albums & more pages just using the items I've accumulated since starting this wonderful craft 7 yrs ago! Plus, I've dug out a few lesser used tools & put them to good use.
Thanks for all the inspriration to do something creative everyday. YOU ROCK, ALI!!

I just got into Stacy Julians Library Of Memories system so I've been using stamps, punches, and patterned paper for file folders and labeling. Using my scrap stuff for things other than layouts is great. :)

Photoshop...definitely! I am taking Jessica Sprague's classes, and they are wonderful! I am learning so much, and yet there is so much more I want to learn. It's amazing how the older I get, the more I desire to learn and understand...lifelong learner!! Your digital elements have been very inspiring to me!

Sadly, I have not done much scrapbooking since my last baby. The colors made me sick (I know, it's weird) but I am trying to get back in to the swing of things by doing a lot of "altered" things. I am working on altered barn stars right now. Fun!

my favourite technique in mixed media, is photo transfer onto paper. Using a photocopy of a picture, putting a little smooth gel down on the paper and putting your picture down on top of it, and peeling back the paper and there is your picture.

My favorite technique right now involves work with fleece fabric--if you cut it in 1/4 inch strips then pull, you can make cording from the fabric. I then use the cording to decorate either new projects or embellish ready-to-wear. Guess I could use it on scrapbooking, just haven't tried it yet.

My favorite technique for any of my artistic hobbies is to think less+create more. I've given up trying to have everything be perfect. It's been very liberating!

My favorite technique right now is glitter. I do not have a million colors and I really like it to be very subtle and clean. I've been looking through your ideas and they are very inspiring! Thanks!

Right now I love doing photo tinting in Photoshop PS2, my baby girl has amazing blue eyes and when the picture is desaturated and layered I can really play up her eyes.
p.s. congrats on your new growing miracle.
