Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I really like using Hallmark's Smilebox. It is a free program that you download onto your computer (you do need to pay if want to upgrade). It is a really easy way to share with family by email pictures of my 6 month old and even video. The pages have already been designed, all you do is drop your pictures or video into the slots, choose the music you want in the background, journal in their predesigned journaling spots, and send your creation out. It is pretty much like putting the moments of your life to music.

For me it is my Camera Phone. I have never been good at the 365 project, and so I decided that once a day I would pull out my Cell Phone (which I always have with me, even around the house) and I would take a photo that would remind me of some way of that day. It has been over a month now, and I have about 40 photos, and each time I see them I can remember 40 diffrent days. It has helped me to remember the "little things" that make up my life. The picnic we took one sunday, the day we went to Disneyland, the bike ride that saturday..... I can now remember each of those 40 days as unique days and not "the month of August 2008" that is just a blur.
I am not sure what I will do with them- maybe scrapbook them, or make a mini album some day- but right now I am just happy to capture the moment and memories :)
Thanks for the chance to win! :)

My favorite "technique" is scrapbooking with friends! It is so much fun to crop and relax with girls that feel the same way that I do about scrapbooking!!! It's become our creative social outlet and the best way for us to stay sane!!! :)

Really, my favorite technique is to do a very simple layout with photos, story, and a little patterned paper. Simple is my thing right now.
Peace. Susan

Right now for me it's all about writing, journalling, just getting my thoughts down on paper.
