Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

Right now I'm a very traditional scrapbooker and I rely mostly on patterned paper for creative impact. I just got a new computer yesterday and I can't wait to get into all of the digital goodies that are out there. :)

i love scrapbooking and getting those pictures and journaling down for others. however, i think the thing that excites me the most is mixed media collages. i have started doing some and i love to just keep adding and playing.

The Techniques that I am into right now are playing with paint and Heidi Swapp masks. Also layering items like transparencies, Magic Mesh and stamped images.

I took a break from hand-stitching on my art quilted pieces, and am playing with a new art journal. LOVE trying different techniques on each spread.....and when the altered book is finished, it will become my journal for creative thoughts.

I haven't scrapbooked in months, 10 to be exact, when my 3rd child was born. My favorite medium is free time! This book could get me inspired to jump back in!

My husband and I just got back from Peace Corps and still feel like semi-nomadic people. So, while I'm literally itching to get my easel out of storage, I have to satisfy my creative energy with Photoshop and paper. I've been working on putting an album of our PC experience together. It's so great to re-live what we've just done so soon afterward, while the memories are still fresh! My favorite thing I've been doing is hybrid scrapbooking! I love it! It's so much more mess-free! :)

Love Kelly Rae's work. Would love the opportunity to have a copy. I am enjoying using vintage pieces on my scrapbook pages right now. Found some vintage old maid cards while hitting yard sales as well as vintage book pages. Love the texture they bring.

I have been simplifying my creative path. Taking the pressure off and adding photos in protective sleeves and scrapbooking the ones that tell the story. Living in the moment.......thanks for the opportunity to win a really neat book.

I have been having fun learning Photoshop and to scrap digitally. I also have been doing some photo album scrapbooking, which is instant gratification to me.

As the months get colder, my interests and time turn to quilting and knitting! Right now I feel especially inspired to make sure my baby is cozy warm through our very long winters.

I love to use scraps of paper. The more worn the better. Paint also.

the past half year I've been really trying to think out of the box and try things that are new(ish) for me. I've really picked up on stamping and use it in both my scrapbooking as my art journalling.

My favorite has to be mixed media ... just stacking and layering lots of fun non-scrapbooking and scrapbooking items together. I wish I had more flea markets near me!
