Halloween : Good Times
Tags:[ knock. knock. : captured Halloween afternoon ]
This first photo is one of those where I feel like I can literally see the passage of time. It's shots like this that feel like a gift, captured in an unsuspecting moment on a day that is all about costumes and candy and craziness. Ah, life. I am so very thankful for that sparkle.
On to the festivities. The hole drilling in the pumpkins worked out pretty well (thanks for all those suggestions earlier in the month). I started with the smaller holes and then tried a spade bit (according to Chris) to create the large holes. It was definitely messy even after cleaning out the insides. If I do it again next year I will go with all larger holes - the smaller ones were too small to let much light through. Not enough glow on the porch with the smaller holes.
Our neighborhood is really pretty mellow on Halloween. Only about 10 or so groups rang the doorbell but each time they did Simon was super excited to answer the door (in costume of course) and have them grab a hand-full from the basket. He spent quite a bit of time just waiting and saying, "Are they coming? Are they coming?"
We did a brief tour around the neighborhood before coming back and watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
(or as Simon calls it "#2" - he loves it for the flying car). His favorite thing about Halloween is just seeing the costumes of the other kids and yelling out " Did you see so and so? Did you see them?"
And of course, the costume was on again on Sunday.
December Daily: Amy let me know that Bind it All has some clear file folder acrylic album pieces (7.5 inches x 5 inches) available. I think you do need to punch holes in these yourself using either the Bind It All or a CropADile. These are similar to the album cover I am using except they are clear rather than white.
A warm welcome to my new sponsors: Sweet Pea Ink, Susan Hessler (Close To My Heart Independent Consultant), Oh La La Scrap, and MyScrapChick.com.
STAY TUNED : I've got some exciting things lined up for this week including a special announcement later in the week, a giveaway on Wednesday, some more Week In The Life samples on Thursday, and more.
Have a great Monday.

I love the BIG holes!!! I'll have to try that. The past three years I did the small holes and poked Christmas lights through the holes, turns out super cute!! {Thanks Martha Stewart Living for that idea} Just thought I would pass on the idea.

Ali, Thanks for the down to earth post. Seeing the picture of Simon made me think about my own children. It's been a struggle today to keep things in perspective. My husband lost his job of 7 years today..this morning at 10am as a matter of fact..7 years almost to the day. Our son Charlie will be 7 on Wednesday. Joe will be home to make him a great birthday breakfast but it will be bittersweet.
Hope all is well with the baby. I am looking forward to getting started on my december album! thanks as always for just being you. Wendy WVG

Oh how cute and amazing Simon is.
Happy Fall too.
Wanted to tell you a tip for next year.
I made the same pumpkins with larger holes and used a drill and figured out it was messy so tried an apple corer. OMG it worked out amazing and with the cleanest circles..ever.
I made one small pumpkin like a incense burner. With cloves and vanilla stuck in the lid and cinnimon rubbed on it. When you lit the candle it fills your house with a wonderful smell.
Hope you have a WONDERFUL season.

There are those photos that capture a glimpse into the future and what a more grownup child might look like, I have a few of those where my then 10 year old seems older for that second snapped by my camera. I can almost see a teen age Simon in that first sparkle eyed pic!

I've been following your work-like most-for a very long time. and Looking at this picture of Simon really opens my eyes to the passage of time. It's uncanny how much they grow from pre-k to kindergarten and grade one. I am a teacher myself and a student of mine is autistic. He is the same age as Simon. I am in a private school where i am fortunate to see the same kids every year. This little boy has changed drastically since last year. He has matured and learned to control himself so much since last year. He is much better in social situations and sometimes i marvel at the abilities he's gained since last year when any little thing would 'set him off'. Looking at Simon reminds me of how much he has grown.....there is always something one can relate to in other people's lives....
Thanks for continuing to be a support....in scrapbooking and just as an escape from life in general.

I got to see you both in Hermiston, OR a few years ago, and I can't believe how big he's gotten. Anyway thanks for sharing your incredible ideas...as always, you are an inspiration.
