Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

I'm not the kind of person that takes many leaps but I'm getting ready to.

Great prizes!! My most recent big leap was the decision to apply for nursing school after being out of school for YEARS!! It will be a lot of work and as a family we will be making lots of sacrifices. But it'll be worth it in the end. Thankfully I have a very supportive husband.
My most recent little leap was deciding to make the phonecall to Early Intervention to have my 18 month old evaluated for some speech therapy.

My most recent act of courage is going to occur today. Many things are going on in my school that I don't agree with and today I will be going to the TOP of the food chain to try to get results. Wish me luck!

My leap of faith is having a third unexpected child when things are not so cool in my marriage.

Wow - deep thoughts this morning for me. I guess my biggest leap of faith lately has been "loosening the stings" with my almost 13 year old son. He is starting to have more freedom and in doing that, I have to take a leap of faith that is going to remember the values we have raised him with over the years and make good choices. So far so good...I am proud of the young adult he is becoming!

I love what you do - you're an inspiration to so many people.
You know how sometimes it seems life is so good, then suddenly things start going wrong? Kind of in 3's. My husband was laid off from his job, then, I was sick most of the month of December - just awful. Then, my father was diagnosed with cancer at the start of the new year just three years after losing my mother to cancer. I was feeling sorry for myself, and just this overwhelming sad mood.
But, I made the decision to believe it will get better, that things will be okay, and surprisingly, I'm not feeling so sorry for myself right now.
That was my leap of faith, because usually I dwell on things for wayyy too long.

My leaps have been tiny hops, I have accepted that the depression I have suffered since my father died (at 54) was no longer something I could handle on my own, and went to the doctor.
All the giveaways are awesome, as much as I would love to go to Italy it is not in the budget...Thanks for the chances!

I'm not sure if it counts as a "leap" or not, but I started learning to knit, and recently, I started a class to learn how to knit socks. I'm sometimes not very good with confidence. I have such a deep need to be perfect that sometimes shoos me away from doing things that I am afraid I won't excel at.
Scrapbooking changed that for me, I think, helped me be open to doing things that I'm not perfect at, knowing it takes practice, and being okay with the process.
Awesome question, Ali!

My most recent leap is - not to leap. My husband was out of work for almost a year in 2007-2008. He has a job he loves now and we are trying to get back on our feet. However there is a chance that we may have to file for Bankrupcy in order to truly come back from this crisis. I am typically a "leaper" doing things on impulse and not thinking about what will happen when I land. Buying scrapbooking tools when I want to or that cute patterned paper or getting things for my daughter's first dance or for my husband to use at his new job, arranging family trips on the spur of the moment. However I've had to stretch myself, this past year, into leaping - into not leaping. Looking before I step out into the pool rather than leaping from the high dive.

My not so big leap was today when I met my new ob/gyn because my previous one transferred to another hospital. I really don't like anything to do with doctors/hospitals so I am always nervous about my appointments anyway. Plus I always worry about the language factor a bit. But I got up, and did it (albeit after a night of tossing and turning lol)

My most recent leap was joining a ladies Bible study group. That was a leap for me because I joined NOT KNOWING ANYONE! That's huge for me! I used to not do things because I didn't have a friend to do it with me. But no longer. It's time to start doing things outside my comfort zone. My next leap is to take a motorcyle training class! Thanks for the quote...it's truly inspiring!

Mine is a chosen leap, our very much wanted, very much planned first pregnancy is still a giant act of courage in how much this is going to change our lives

I'm taking a leap of faith this coming week involving a very strained relationship with a family member. I've decided to put the past in its place and simply move forward hoping that healing can take place and hoping the relationship can be what it should in the future (I'm summoning up all my courage allowing this person in my home again).

My most recent BIG leap was starting to take better care of myself. I am 30 and don't want to wait til I'm 50 to say oh I wish I'd done that. So I am eating healthier, exercising more, and making surer that I quit putting stuff off. To me this a big leap. Thanks for those words,it is well said!

Wow! I'd love to learn more about scrapbooking. I've been a cardmaker for a few years now and just made my first leap into scrapbooking. My girlfriend and I spent Saturday together, and she asked me to do a scrapbook on it. I began, and found it very easy and pleasurable. I used backgrounds and frames from www.scrapbookflair.com

I recently took a BIG leap of courage on Monday, when my husband and I put in an offer on a house. The house is in foreclosure but in great shape, and there is already one bid on it. We decided to take the leap and put it in God's hands.

My latest big leap was becoming the sole bread winner for awhile. Kind of hard to do when I only work 3 days a week, but we made it through on top. My latest little leap was jumping into the layout-a-day challenge for February. Have a great day!!
