Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I'm having a hard time using up my Kokuyo refills because I don't want to be out of them! They are my favorite adhesive for ribbon and chipboard. Alas, I know the time with come that they are all gone. Boo Hoo!
I've been working with the tombow Mono as an alternative. It is OK but not as good as the Kokuyo. Friends have been trying to turn me on to the ATG, but it is SO big. However the economical aspect of it may win over eventually.
Good luck in your search!

Since reading Ali's post and many of the comments, I have done a pretty exhaustive internet search for the Dot n Roller because--as I said in my earlier comment--I seem to be so severely adhesive challenged. I did find 4 dispensers available from one of Amazon's associates and quickly ordered them--but, I paid as much for the shipping as the product, so it cost me outrageously, even though the dispenser was reasonable. I have looked at the site (Abundantia) with the 312 refills available and not sure I like their terms--the order is charged immediately to your credit card whether the item is in stock, back ordered, or unavailable. I guess that means you have to try to get a refund to your card in any of those situations. Don't like that. I do like the idea of it being a woman-owned company, though. Anyone had any experience with Abundantia?

I only use Creative Memories adhesives, all types. I started years and years ago with the tabs that you had to place and peel the covering off of. They have improved over the years and their tape runners are easy to use and refill. They also have a mini tape runner that has tiny strong tape, great for small stuff. For ribbon I just use basic double sided tape from scotch that I keep in a tape holder on my desk. Hope you find a new adhesive that you like soon!

I use the red ATG gun and I love it. I can get through an entire mini album with a single roll. It's so cost effective. And sticky!

Ali,
I have both Scoth ATG's the yellow and the red. The red has a thin adhesive the yellow a thicker. I love it. I have used a ton of different ones and find that these are the one I go back to all the time. The others are not as reliable, and those little adhesive always break on me. I have a drawer full of those "little ones" and the refills, but I love my ATG. It is very sticky, so if you want something not permanent use something else, as I do on a rare occasion. Hope you like the ATG. Anyway just an opinion..and you know what they say about opinions ; )

Ali, I've tried & tried to find something on your blog. I used the search feature as well.
Can you help me find that poem, "Normal Day"?
Thanks so much,

I am so sad over this. I have been using Kukuyo for a couple years now too and have loved it. Told all my friends about it and they had switched to it too. I did just purchase the Glue Glider Pro at our local Scrapbook Expo last weekend. I had the chance to use it on a make n take and it's as easy to refill as the Kukuyo. I also hear that the duck brand and tombow are good ones too.

ATG Red, total total total LOVE. No dots. No tabs. Solid stream of adhesive. Size is not hard to get used to.

Ali,
I have the big yellow ATG and love it! I got it before they made the red one. If you only need it for 1/4 glue runner then just get the red one. The yellow one can house different widths of refills.
I think it is totally cost effective. You can get a break on refills if you order in bulk, like I do and I'm sure you would, too.
The size is really not a big deal to me. It is super easy to use.
Go for it! :D

Tombow Mono has a permanent dots version now. I can't stand the regular Tombow Mono, but this dots version seems to be pretty darn cool. Here's a link: http://store.scrapbook.com/jv-62147.html.

I use the 3M ATG gun and LOVE it!!! It is bigger and takes some getting used to, but now I don't know what I would do without it. (For those of you who often lose your adhesive admist all of your supplies....never fear....you'll never lose this!) I have 4 friends who are now using it too after much debate and they too love it. I get all of my refills on framingsupplies.com and it's so much cheaper than any other refill. 36 yards of the ATG gold for $3.44. My friend just used a Michael's 40% coupon and bought an adhesive for $5 and is was only 11 yards...yikes! That's it.....3 times as much adhesive for almost half the cost...LOVE IT!!!

Another vote for the ATG. I have the red one, it's narrower. It fit's well on smaller embelishments and if I need more I just apply 2 strips. It's so sturdy and works well for school projects and other kid/craft projects.
Good luck!

For years you have provided me with so much wisdom and advice I feel I owe it to you to tell you---go with the ATG gun! Seriousy! I have used the red ATG gun for a couple of years. I prefer the 1/4 inch tape size. The tape I use is not repositionable, so once it is down it's down to stay.
To answer your question it goes on like tape. You can run it in a continuous line (preferred method) or put a dab here and there as needed. It is soooo fabulous!
Try it!
Have a great day! :)

Love, love, love the ATG (I use the red one). Don't bother with off-brand refills though.

I, too, am in mourning. I feel like I've tried every adhesive out there and this is the only one I was ever completely satisfied with! The ATG is too big and bulky for my taste; tried it and didn't like it too much.
What a bummer!

Bummer... I like the dot n roller too. I tried it after reading about it from you. I have the red 3M dispenser. It isn't dots or tabs. It's a strip of adhesive. Click the trigger, roll, and release the trigger to end the strip. It holds better than any adhesive I have ever tried. I really like it. I used the dot n roller for portability, but since I mostly scrap from home, the 3M gets the most use. I only use it as a paper adhesive though. I use tabs for pictures. The only downfall with the 3M is that you need to be really sure when you stick something down with it. It doesn't reposition easily at all. Good luck in finding a new adhesive.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my ATG. I've had it for a couple of years now. The refills last a really long time, they are very affordable, and just a little bit is all you need. At first, I also thought it would be too big, but once I got started, it was just dreamy. You won't even notice the size. LOVE it!!!!

I'm sad about this one, too. I'm trying the mono and have been liking that one. 3L used to be my favorite (before Kokuyo) but for some reason, the dispenser seems upside down to me - I always grab it the wrong way. 3L does have dots, too.
