Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I have started using Tombo Mono. I used to use Duck Easy Stick, it was wonderful and cheap and I could get it at Wal-mart. It was similar to Tombo, but they have changed it and I do not like it now, it is a tape runner now. It really stinks when you can't find the adhesive you want at a good price.

Love my tombow mono. So easy and lightweight. Works for me. Not good on stuff needing heavier adhesion like purses, boxes, etc. But does the job for cards and scrapbook pages.

I love Tombo Mono adhesive! It works great and is easy to put a new roll into the little case. My only problem is that Hobby Lobby and Michael's are often out of the refills. Wish I knew a place to order it online at a good price.

I love my Glue Arts tape gun (pink and green0. There is one refill that is dots. Once you stick it's there forever! I love it.

I use the red ATG and love, love, love it. But, if you are going to order, also order SEVERAL 1/4 inch tape spools. It takes getting used to but sticks on so great. I don't find my "stuff" on my pages fall off with this adhesive. Good luck.

ATG all the way! I started with the yellow but bought an adapter to use the 1/4" tape (red). It goes on in lines. It is the very best.

I am going to miss the Kokuyo. I am now using the ThermoWeb Memory Tape Runner XL (the second photo in your montage). It's OK, I guess. It gets gummy on the case sometimes and sometimes the tape goes awry, which pisses me off! Also, it seems to run out so quickly.
Prior to the Kokuyo DNR, I used this Henzo Runner that applied little, itty-bitty tabs of tape... similar to what I've seen of the Creative Memories tape runner. I liked the hold and the small size of the tab bits, but it's not transparent and the case wasn't refillable, which were its two "cons".
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the yellow ATG gun with the adapter for the 1/4" tape. I like having the option to use the 1/2" tape for certain projects.

I love the TomboMono adhesive. Anything by Tombo works really well for me. I worked at a scrapbooking/crafting store for a year, Archivers Inc., and that adhesive was a favorite among customers and in our classes.
Good luck in finding your new fave!

Ali,
You might want to check out Kinokuniya bookstore in San Jose or San Francisco. They are like the Japanese Barnes and Noble and carry the Kokuyo adhesive. You can't order online, but if you call them they might ship it to you?

I had a coupon for free product at my local scrapbook store today, and just bought 3 more refills for the Kokuyo dot roller. (Not knowing any of this news.)
Then I went to the dollar store and found a similar looking dispenser and was curious. I flipped it over and it said it was made with Kokuyo technologies. It is an Elmer's product, as in Elmer's glue. They had both permanent and repositionable versions. The product looks exactly the same with different writing on it. Just thought I would give a heads up to this since I had not seen it before. I was bummed that I just paid $5 for refills and then got these for $1. I know where I will be shopping for adhesive now!!!
BTW I live in Alexandria, MN.

I've been scrappin' since 1994 and I've been through so many types of adhesive it isn't even funny. I finally gave in and got and ATG gun recently because I was spend a forture on the Glue Glider Pro refills (which I love and still use for little things). I went to findtape.com, purchased a generic ATG and spent half the cost of a scotch brand ATG and I'm in love!!!!! I even SHARE my glue gun with others at crops because at $2.12 for 30 yards I don't need to be a miser! I did have to get used to pulling the trigger before running the glue but that was it! Not too bulky.

Here are two that I am using right now and really like for 12X12 layouts I love using the Glue Glider Pro it is fun and easy to use, for smaller more interactive mini albums and clear acrylic mini albums I like the Beacon Adhesives Fabric-Tac Permanent Adhesive, fast grab & quick dry, dries crystal clear!

Hi, Ali - here's my 2 cents:
I DO use - and love - the Scotch ATG thingy. It WAS cumbersome feeling at first, but I'm really used to it now. It puts down neither a dot, nor a tab, but a sticky line - I think your choice of the yellow or the red determines the width of that line. I have the red and it's 1/4 inch wide.
Pros: Surprisingly easy to use; CHEAP refill tapes by the dozen - they last forever; misplaced adhesive "rolls" off easily; great stick that can actually be moved in most cases if you act quickly but becomes very permanent after a while.
Cons: Takes up a fair piece of real estate on your desk, but it's narrow; it's hard to travel with (I usually substitue with the smaller tombow line); the reload is a bit tricky to learn (but I have complete faith that you'll nail it!) ;)
Good luck!

I have probably used every type of adhesive on the market. Because the ATG is so big and bulky it was probably my last choice. I refused to budge. Every class, every crop, the ladies all had it. I refused. I caved! Boy-oh-boy am I glad I did. I love it now, bulky and all. The refills are very reasonable as well. The tape is very sticky and durable. Love it and will not go back.

I usually have 3-4 adhesives out when I do projects. My favorites are:
wet glue: Scotch Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive
gloss/tack down heavy stuff: Glossy Accents
small diecuts: Zig 2Way glue pen (chisel tip)
dry adhesive (for tacking down paper and pics): Glue Glider Pro! It's a mini version of the monster sized tape runner 3M makes, it's very comfy to grip, and the refills wind up cheaper than the red 3L runner (my old fave before discovering the Glue Glider Pro). Hope that helps!
