Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I tried it out tonight. The Elmer's product is EXACTLY the same as Kokuyo. They call it Elmer's Dot Liner. So everyone should not freak out, because this is out there. The back of the package and the back of the dispenser both say Kokuyo.

I saw the title "I will miss you" and a pic of the ATG gun and it stole my breath! The thought of loosing such a joyous, although HUGE, contraption. What would I do!?
Needless to say I love the silly thing. It looks silly big and rather wierd but it sure saves me a lot of trouble. I have arthritis in my hands and peeling little dots or sticky tabs just kills my hand. The ATG isn't heavy or hard to grip. It rolls nicely and smoothly. I love it for big 12x12 page sticking and even down to photos. I still use glue dots a bit for small work but I don't do a lot that is really small. For awhile it lived on my kitchen island with a the 5yr old's mini book, journaling blocks and a date stamp. I could take a bit of his masterpiece, slide the ATG across, write a journalling block and wa-la memory magic.
Lovely too for envelopes, kid craft, sometimes to glue together the cereal box the child desperately needs from the recycling bin... whatever.

Over here in Austría it's quite difficult to get hold of good & cheap adhesive. I ordered a couple of the Memory Tape runners XL in the US because they seemed cheap but they are useless. After using them a couple of times the tape gets stuck or it breaks altogether because it's so thin. Then you must throw it out after having used just a little of the 600"
I am constantly trying out new glues and switching from one to the other - I absolutely found my love in Heidi Swapp's scrappy glue and use tape rollers of whichever company I come across - the Pritt and the UHU glue roller are quite good and not too expensive over here... and I had my ATG in the mail this morning - can't wait to try it.
Hope to hear about your glue-finding experiments
Sandy

Love, love , love the ATG gun, size is only a minor inconvience. Since I have to drive 1 hr. to a craft store, am sick of 40 percent coupons for runners that don't last long, go for it! Love the fact that you get close to the edge and the stick factor is great for cards you are pulling in and out of the envelopes!

I have a yellow ATG. I almost never use it, it's too difficult for me to manoeuvre (I have some early arthritis in my wrist). I love love love tombo mono adhesive, but I know it's not for everyone, it can be fiddly and has a nasty habit of depositing little adhesive snots when you're not expecting it.

I use the red ATG and absolutely love it. The gun takes a little getting used to but I wouldn't switch back for anything.

you can be sad. I'm still mourning the loss of Duck runner in my 3 local Walmarts. I have now started using the red ATG gun. I like it even with the bulky-ness. It is smooth tape like the Duck, not dots or tabs. By the end of the first roll I had the hang of it and the 2nd roll I'm on seems much easier now.
I tried the glue glider pro - didn't like it and it's more expensive for the refills than the ATG. I still keep my hopes up for Duck runner's making their appearance again :)

I use the Scotch ATG in 2 different widths (basically wide/skinny!) I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Lasts forever, sticks really well, best buy for the money, especially at Christmas. We have re-named it "bionic glue" for all those reasons. I still use "Scrapbook Adhesives" in the red permanent when I need to pack light or do something quick/small. The ATG is also great for matting and framing which I believe is how it originated. It sticks to wood really well.

Ali...I know you have gotten LOTS of input from your question about the ATG gun -- but I still wanted to add my 2 cents...and that is that I LOVE - LOVE - LOVE it. I really thought it looked huge and heavy -- but I have found that it is not in the least bit difficult to use. Also -- I love how LONG the tape rolls last, I have a weekly scrapbooking tv show -- and used to go through adhesive like it was WATER -- and now I only have to change out a couple of times a month. Secondly, I love it because of the strength of the hold...I can attach just about anything with it -- regardless of how heavy or thick it is. Finally -- it is SUPER easy to make my own adhesive dots to attach a flower or some other small embellishment. Just run a strip of adhesive onto your finger and roll it up...so it is like having multiple types of adhesive in ONE tool.
I use the yellow version -- because it does allow me to put several different widths of tape in (it comes with spacer fittings you can use depending on which width you want.

I have the yellow ATG and love it. The adhesive is super sticky--nothing has ever fallen off that I've stuck down, unlike other adehsives that I've used. And you can't beat the economy of the refills. It certainly is bigger than any adhesive gun needs to be, but I've gotten used to it. Besides, you can have fun altering it, like I did here:

I am a Glue Glider Girl...The best part is, if you become a member of the Glue Arts website, they send you their sales and being able to buy them direct is a definte plus! No having to run to the store to get a refill and hope they are in stock. :) The best part of that, (other than not having to lug the kids to a store they don't want to go to). Is the shipping is very fast. I usually get my refills within 2 days of my order! I saw the ATG and it hurt my wrist...so I didn't go with that one. The warning about the permanent adhesive is true for the Glue Glider too. Not very forgiving, but then that is where Un-du comes in handy! :)

I've been a Tombow girl since I started scrapbooking. I know which stores carry it around here or I order it. I've only tried a few other "generic" brands when I was desperate, like something I picked up at WalMart, and I didn't like them at all.

One more comment, though I don't know if anyone gets through these. I can't--takes too long to load them all. I was so excited to be able to find 4 of the Dot n Roller dispensers through an Amazon associate. Just got an e-mail that order had been canceled. Boo!

I really liked that adhesive since I learned about it on your site. I've used the red one, the tabs, and didn't like it....don't know if they have dots. I'm in between projects, but I'll be looking soon also.
