Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I use the 714 ATG gun and *adore* it. I only use the gold tape b/c it's archival safe, but it's skinny and I've found that if I roll a line out onto my craft mat, I can just roll it up into a ball if I want a "dot" of adhesive instead of a line.
It really does seem bulky to look at, but it's a dream to use.
It also helps that I customized mine and it's not that awful red color anymore. Who among us doesn't want a tool we can customize to our favorite color!?

I am just as sad as you are! I agree that I finally found one I love. I switched back to my tombow mono but its only until I find a new replacement.

Red ATG here. I love it. I have saved SOOO much money in adhesive and that stuff STICKS. I've had to go back and re-do pages done with the Tombow, but that could be due to my climate (I'm in very humid South Florida).

Just like you, I will miss the Dot-n-roller. I have tried many other runners, but can't find any with dots. Most runners have one long strip, that never breaks where you want it to... Just leaves a mess or unnecessary bulkiness.
I also have a high demand on the bond. Once it sticks, it has to stay put!
I will check your posts some extra in the near future, to hopefully find some recommendations on other adhesives.
If I find one similar to Kukoyo, I will let you know.

I, too, am in mourning over the loss of my beloved Kokuyo! I have the red ATG and like it, it's cost effective, the refills are huge and last a long time and the best part is it never gets lost on my scrapbook table! But. The adhesive is permanent and not very forgiving, so I have to be VERY careful to get things even and straight or I'm in big trouble. I also use the Glue Glider and like that you can get repositional or permanent refills, but the refills are pricey...so I try to use the 40% off Hobby Lobby coupons.

I LOVE my ATG - I have the red one, which I painted pink because I hate red. It is one of the best scrapbook investments I have made

I really like Tombow! The mono is good but if you like dots, they have a dot adhesive too. That's what I use and I think it's great! Once in awhile I have problems getting in down on really thick paper. So, then I use double sided tape or something like that. Otherwise, I use it for everything else and don't have any trouble.
I've used the Herma also. The thing I don't like about that is that I ALWAYS have problems getting the refill in! Not worth the hassle!

I used to work at and manage a framing shop and we used the ATG guns for gluing the mats together on multi-mat projects... I never even would have thought to use that big bulky thing on little scrapbooking projects! Now I've missed my chance to have bought it at cost, LOL. :) I still think it's too bulky for my tastes, but I will agree with what other people have said about the Glue Glider Pro... I just won one from The Girls Loft and while I haven't used it yet, it feels very comfortable, like a mini ATG gun! :)

HERMA, HERMA, HERMA
Been using it since I started scrapping 5yrs ago. Its a dot roller and is available in repositionable and permanent, I just noticed that some one else recommended this too, but I didn't realised that you couldn't get this in the states. Sorry.

I've got the red ATG and LOVE it! It seems huge at first... but you get use to it REALLY quickly! The reason I love it so much is because it holds better than anything else I've tried. My card layers use to fall apart a little after about a year... but not any more! And... one tape refill will last a LONG time!
I always buy my supplies from here: (it's the cheapest I've found) http://www.framingsupplies.com/3M/TapeDispenserGuns.htm

I ADORE my ATG gun....it took a little while to get used to it, but give it a fair chance, it's AWESOME! I'll never go back to anything else. I just attended a crop this weekend where I finished something like 20 pages...I never had to change my adhesive roll...one roll lasted me the whole weekend. And I tend to overdo it on adhesive (my kindergarten teacher would be disappointed at my "waste of tape").

I do enjoy the ATG 700. It is a bit bulky, but once I got the hang of it, I wouldn't use anything else. The refills are actually quite inexpensive too, which helps! It doesn't really go on like dots or tabs...it is more like a clear strip. It is a dream to adhere ribbon too! Good luck!

I'm so bummed about Kokuyo too. It's my favorite adhesive for traveling. I used to use the Thermo Web tape runner, and liked it until I went to CE...it just gummed up something awful in that dry air. It works fine in humid Illinois. My FAVORITE for use at home is the red ATG. You just can't come close to matching the price for refills. It's bulky, and I think its biggest downfall is that there is no traveling cap available (I put it in a ziplock bag when I travel), and it sometimes gets all messed up traveling. That's why I keep a few smaller ones for working away from home. I never felt the need for the 1/2 of adhesive you get with the yellow one.

I love my Scotch ATG guns. I have a yellow for the 1/2 inch tape and a red one for the 1/4 inch tape. I keep them in a nice (imitation) leather magazine holder. The fit perfectly and are ready for me to grab and glue. I wouldn't trade them for anything. The price for the tape is so much better than anything else I have ever found. It is more like dots than tabs, but not really like either. Good luck!

Don't you start sniffing it, Cathy.

BTW - in addition to my previous post: in the meantime I use my Scrapper's Glue. It's fluid, but spreads super thin with a small tip and bonds in seconds. Completely permanent.

I have always used Hermafix dots, repositionable and permanent. In the USA they are sold by EK Success as Herma Dotto. http://eksuccess.com/products_list.php?sess_id=ab4e8e2ee1f1709ed0b174bfe01dab55
They are my favorite, and if you like dots then I would highly recommend them.

Dude, I use the Staples brand adhesive rollers. They're cheap, and they get the job done. Besides that, I'm all over the glue sticks, and the cheapest ones I can find at that.
Yeah, I'm pretty awesome.

OMG OMG !!!!! Ali, you have just ruined my day-----I am so sorry---YOU didn't ruin it Kukoyo did. I am a tried and true die-hard Dot n Roller fan, too. Oh, it took forever to get a "good one" and now it's going away. That is really bad news. I know, I know, perspepctive, perspective, but a girl has to whine a bit, too, and I really really love their adhesive.
I also use the Glue Glider Pro but it's too big to carry around in my "Black Scrap Emergency Bag" so it's just like a backup. I guess my backup will have to come to the forefront and buy a bigger bag LOL!!!
You have to be careful to get the dot pattern refill though and for some reason they seem harder to find. Is it my imagination? I like them better than the strip and definitely not the repositionable on GGP. Thanks for letting me be sad with you Ali. I am so sad to hear the news. Guess I will have to get over it.
