Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I've had the original yellow ATG for ages and I absolutely adore it. Recently, I bought the 1/4" adapter and I'm really glad that I did. Now I have the versatility to be able to use both widths of tape by just switching the adapters.
I also love that there is so little waste with an ATG. Just a little spool of backing paper rather than an entire plastic device. It's also really affordable! I think it's about 9 cents per yard for the 1/4" width. I use the standard tape because I don't really like the consistency of the archival stuff (it seems to be stringier) and I know framers have been using this adhesive long before the Gold version was available. If it's good enough for framers it's good enough for me.
The adhesive from the ATG isn't tabs or dots. It's more like a super thin continuous strip of glue that "rips" when you stop pressing the trigger. It's sort of difficult to explain and it takes a little practice, but it's worth it. I wouldn't trade this adhesive for any other on the market.

I'm a Tombow mono girl as well. Quick and easy and super easy to find. I susally order in bulk over the internet and it saves a ton (24+ tape runners at a time). Good Luck!

I use the Glue Dots roller, it's okay, but I miss the Kokuyo dot-n-roller.

When I found out about this, I bought up all that I could find. I think I am good for 6 months or so. I'll be anxious to hear what you think about the other options. I have been borrowing different types from friends. That ATG gun is just too big for me and I don't like the gummy/sticky stuff if you are right on the edge of the paper. I have had pages stick together. The Thermo-Web seems to be similar to what I was used to. I received the pink and green Glider at a crop. Will have to give it a try. So sad.....

I've used the Scrapbook Adhesives E-Z Runner for a while. It goes on easily, but I've found that some things have come un-stuck after a time (that's no good). Am trying out the UHU stic glue stick and the Herma Vario sticko (not liking it so far).

I use Tombow Mono and like it. I did try Dot-n-roller and really liked it but because I couldn't find it close to me I've stayed with the Tombow. I also tried the Thermo-Web tape but am not satisfied with it; the tape seems to come off the track and it's very hard to get it back on track! A couple of times I've been unable to and lost tape! grrrr.

I use the Tombo Mono and I Love it. It's the same as the Stampin Up adhesive. Though it's been difficult to find refills where I live [Michigan]. I've had to buy them in bulk off ebay.

I have the ATG after a couple of years of resisting it for the same reasons you mentioned. Now that I have it (have had it for almost 2 years) I LOVE it. It doesn't apply in dots or tabs- instead it's a solid line. And it is SUPER tacky. I got mine (the red one- if you find that you need the 1/2" wide tape, just run two lines next to each other of the 1/4") from http://www.framingsupplies.com.
Prior to the ATG I used Tombo Mono and loved it, too. I always got refills the cheapest ($1.81 each and free shipping over $75) here- http://www.discountofficeitems.com/office-supplies/general-supplies/tape-glue-adhesives/glue-dispenser-refills/tombow-mono-permanent-adhesive-refill/p13931.html.
I have tried the Glue Glider. It's cute, but EXPENSIVE. Refills are nearly $8 for 40 feet of adhesive. Refills for the ATG are ~$3.50 for 36 YARDS. Per foot, ATG is definitely the best value.

Wait?!? You SHOULDN'T use rubber cement? Bbbwwwaaa-hahahhahahahaha aaaaahhhhh. I am a teacher and they don't even let us use that stuff in school anymore. The days of letting a bunch of it congeal and making suberballs is over. Sigh.

I too had my favorite adhesive 'go away' but I switched to the glue glider and I love it. The ATG was too big for me and it had a smell I didn't like. The Glue Glider is just the right size and not smell.

I use the yellow ATG and love it. I have the adapter - to be able to use both tapes, and to be honest, I rarely use that feature. I'd recommend the red - and if you need the wider strip just use it twice! Only thing that took some getting used to is it's VERY sticky. Once it goes down - it's down. Also, it comes out in a line, like tape. Good Luck!

I've been using the tape runner from Creative Memories for almost 8 years now. It is easily refillable and easily controllable. You can use as little one tiny segment.

ALI,
I DON'T USUSALLY OFFER ADVICE BUT I DO WORK AT A SCRAPBOOK STORE AND I'VE TRIED IT ALL...
AS FOR WET GLUE ELMERS PURPLE GLUE STICKS WORK AND ZIP DRY, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD "ROLLER" GLUE, TRY OUT THE GLUE GLIDER... THE PINK ONE. THERE ARE LOT'S OF OPTIONS AND IT IS VERY, VERY, STICKY. NOT AS STICKY AS RED TACKY TAPE BUT JUST THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF "STICK". I'VE TRIED THEM ALL AND IT'S THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS. THE ONLY DOWNFALL IS THAT THE EMPTY CARTRIDGE SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF WASTE, BUT I JUST RECYCLE MINE WITH MY RECYCLEABLES.
GIVE IT A TRY!

I use the ATG and it is awesome - I use the 1/4" one. I bought mine from albumsandanswers.com because they paint them in pretty colors. I heard of this website from Stacy Julian on her blog. Anyway - I absolutely love it. I think you still need something smaller to hold when you are trying to adhere small or tiny pieces of paper. So, then I use the Tombow Mono.

I've tried most everything. The ATG is too big. Most others run out too quickly or don't work as well. I recently bought the Glue Glider and love it! I wish they were sold in the stores where I live. Oh well, maybe some day.
