Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

Most definitely the RED ATG. It's 1/4" as opposed to 1/2", which makes it much more convenient for small projects and scrapbooking in general. Order from FramingSupplies.com. They're the cheapest and fastest.

May I suggest the Glue Arts Gun? I have been testing it for a few months now- its less bulky than the ATG gun- and I can now find the refills at Mike's - I also believe that there is a dot one that you can use- but I think it goes on pretty smooth and lasts a long time (i.e. - one whole refill lasts through an 8 page mini book and several scrap pages) -
Good Luck- I know it sucks when they stop making your adhesive...

I use the Creative Memories tape runner. It's tab style tape, but since it's my first move up from the almighty glue stick, I'm happy with it so far. For stuff I want to use dots on I use Glue Dots. I tried that EZ runner one and it just kept coming unrolled and the dots never stayed down good. Anyways, keep us posted...who knows I may try something new.
Oh and Cathy--hilarious! I just found my very first scrapbook where I used rubber cement...that stuff is still sticking after 20 years!

Hope all is well for you and your family.

Yes...get the ATG! I thought it was ridiculous when I first saw it and I'm still embarrassed to bring it to crops, but it WORKS! Nothing falls off and once you get the hang of it (there's definitely a learning curve) it's so fast and easy. My handle is red and I always use the gold adhesive (archival?). You can buy cases of the adhesive cheap at framingsupplies.com, I think the website was.

I'm a UHU glue stick fan. It doesn't bubble up or warp the paper like regular glue sticks and it's easily repositionable (within the first 2 minutes) and won't leave a sticky residue.

I use the red gun and I really like it....as for how it goes on, I guess tab like, but you can use alot or a little of it.
And yes, no one laugh, but I am still old fashioned when it comes to my fav adhesive.....Creative Memories tape runner.

I have been using the Herma Dotto repositionable. I hope I won't be sorry down the road...

My favorite adhesive is the repositional hermafix dotto. I use it for positioning my photos and such. I also have the Scotch ATG in yellow. I don't use my ATG often. I prefer repositional adhesive and the ATG is definitely permanent. There's no going back! LOL!

Ali, I was among those who cried tears when I found out the Dot 'n Roller was not going to be made anymore. I do have the ATG gun and I have a love/hate relationship with it (I have the yellow one). I used Tombow before the Dot 'n Roller, but I just go through refills so fast that it was costing me a fortune. Then I discovered Adtech that they sell at Wal-Mart (probably other places as well). They have a dot roller that is almost identical to the Kokuyo one. And they are cheap! The refills are something like $2.44 for two. So that's what I'm presently using, or at least on the days that I am not loving my ATG gun. Good luck finding something you like.

I just ordered the ATG red yesterday. I was kind of hesitant because of the size but many of my friends use it so I thought I would give it a shot. I used the Tombo Mono now and find that over time it seems to not work very well. Good luck finding an adhesive you like!

I love my Tombow Mono Adhesive!
A refill here in Germany can be as low as 2,28 € (about $3.40).
This is a good price here and counts for me, too, especially when the adhesive works as I want it to.
Greetings from Germany,
Bianca

It's difficult to transition sometimes but I'm sure you'll find a "happy" product somewhere in the huge line-up of choices we have out there! I use the RED ATG gun with the "GOLD" 1/4" tape for papercraft projects like cards, boxes, etc....when I'm comfortable with a perm mount situation. ATG tape is a solid strip adhesive (and may I stress "permanent" once again). I use glue dots and/or Creative Memories tape runners for photo layouts or when I think I may need to reposition an item. Hope this helps...Good Luck!

I use the red ATG. I tried tombo mono and other tape runners but the problem that I had was after my cards sat around for awhile the embellishments were falling off of them. When I started using the ATG gun NOTHING every comes off and I love it. The refills when ordered from the tape depot are so reasonable. It doesnt come out in dots or tabs but just a long string of adhesive tape. This was THE best scrapbooking investment I made!! LOVE IT!!!

I am with you. I am down to my last bit of dot-n-roller and I have been looking at other adhesives but I cannot seem to decide on one. I've been using some of the old tabs (that I have for my daughter to use) just so I don't use the dot-n-roller up. So sad. I just can't picture using that huge ATG gun...

Hi! Ali, i use Ad Tech dot glue runners, you get 2 refills in a pack for around $2.50 at Walmart. it looks just the blue one in your photo! they have the solid strip glue ones too, but they never work for me (too messy) i always buy a bunch at once cuz they are always out of them! i liked reading what everyone else uses.....never thought of rubber cement except for mounting stamps...will have to try it!

I too used to think that the ATG gun was WAY too big for me to use. But, I made the leap and I love it. It lasts a long time, the refills are not expensive, and the gun is easy to find on my table. Plus, once you get used to it, you can get your adhesive anywhere you want it. I love mine.

I am sad too. How dare they discontinue the Kokuyo just weeks after I discovered it! I loved the dots because I could easily rub them off when I went off the edges onto my layouts, my desk, my cutting mat.... I'm distraught to find that not all adhesives rub off like that. I just got a Tombow on clearance, hoping that it will suffice and I can use it for my smaller items. I'm leaning toward getting the red ATG for bigger use. I can't bring myself to buy the Glue Glider, big or little, because the refills are so pricey. The ATG gives you so much more adhesive for such a cheap price!
