Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I have the yellow ATG and I love it. You control how much you apply. You can apply a very small tab, or a long strip. I get the refills very inexpensively at www.framingsupplies.com. They also have a neat video on how to load the gun (which I have to watch every time I load it). The only other adhesives I use are the good ole' glue sticks on occasion and Scor Tape. I sometimes make template projects with heavy CS and for adhering pieces together scor tape works well.

I love the Tombow, but haven't tried the others. Tombow always stays put. With other adhesives, I've been able to disassemble pages with little effort. Tombow makes that impossible.

I, too, am in mourning. I'm still searching for a replacement. I have an ATG for some matteing and framing I do for photography, but I just can't make it work for scrapping.

I have the yellow ATG gun and I love it. Make sure you order the "gold" adhesive as it is the one that is Acid free. I have NEVER met anyone that didn't love it. It sticks amazing and I don't use little dots I glue the whole strip of paper because the adhesive is so cheap, you can! but if you don't want to you can use as much as you want just like any other adhesive runner.

I'm still using my original Herma. I also use Creative Memories tape runner and Xyron.

I use the red ATG. Love it. It is a continuous line of adhesive. It's not a bulky to use as you might think. Lighter than expected. The costs of the refills is what sold me. One roll is 36 yards long and costs less than $3 each if I buy 12 or more at a time. I bought mine at www.framingsupplies.com.

Hi Ali,
I have used the Creative Memories Tape Runner for 10 years and I occassionally try others just to see what's out there, but I always come back to the CM. And I am not a CM loyalist, except to their tape runner. I love how stuff stays put, yet I can move it around at any time in the future with a gentle tug. Can't wait until tomorrow's class!

Love, love, love the red ATG gun. I will admit at first I thought it was the bulkiest thing and resisted trying it forever. But I would never go back now that's for sure. i like the red one because I find it to be more versatile. If you need a thicker line of adhesive just add more. In the long run you just can beat the cost effectiveness of it.

I used to use Tombow Mono, but switched to the red ATG and love it. It puts out a thinner line than the yellow. For smaller things I use Dotto.

Is there a way to order it online from overseas? You just never know. . .

I am a Hermafix dots girl. However, the latest refills have been gumming up the works so I finally had to drop that one. Bought the glue glider at a crop this weekend. Hated both the permanent and repositionable types. I'm going to try Tombow next.

I suggest the pink and green runner, can't remember the name. It is like the ATG gun but half the size. Love it, it is my next favorite to Zip Dry. LOVE LOVE LOVE my Zip Dry. Do to the fact it takes a little bit for it to dry so you have time to move things around a bit, but once it is dry, it is stuck.

After 10 years, I still love my Hermafix. Both permanent and repositionable.

i use the red atg and overall i love it. cons...it does feel bulky (you get accustomed to that) and i have a hard time finding brick and mortar stores that sell it. pros...more adhesive for less money (framingsupplies.com- it comes in 36 yard rolls) i buy it in bulk, the red gun is 1/4 inch and yellow is 1/2 inch- i prefer 1/4 inch as it seems more useful for me.
i have friends who love the glue glider, it's less bulky...but i love that i can get 36 yards of adhesive for around $4 per roll!

Hi Alie,
I jumped in the bandwagon and bought my ATG about 2 years ago AND LOVE IT! I ordered it from www.framingsupplies.com and got the red one because it's the only one that can take the ATG Gold tape, which is acid free.
It did feel different in my hand when I first used it because of the size and the way you hold it, but I quickly became used to it; I now have such control that I can apply the adhesive on the edge without going over.
Now, while I love my ATG for home, I quickly found out that it was not very practical (for me) to take to crops, so I started looking for a smaller runner and I actually picked the Thermo Web Memory Runner XL. I like it because it glides smoothly, you can refill it and the refills are 50ft (the longest I've seen), besides white it also comes in pink and green and I can get them at Mickey's with a 40% coupon - you can't go wrong.
I bought and tried a few different runners, in order to make my decision as adhesive is personal preference. I don't like tabs (like the 3L) but I never really liked dots either. I prefer a smooth continuous line of adhesive and only use permanent.
Good luck!

funny...but i concur with cathy z...i have started to use rubber cement almost exclusively...it's just like kindergarten all over again! i switched when amanda johnson started to talk about using it.
i have never had luck with the tombow mono...it just does not have sticking power for me.
