Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

We do homemade coupon books: chore free day, stay up 1/2hr later, restaurant meal, etc. They are a hit with my 8 and 10 year old.

Just picked up in the dollar aisle at Target today a mini tree kit in a pot. Also have socks, lip balm, magazine, memo book for lists, floating flashlights, book store gift cards...always an adventure to find "different" things:)

Growing up we got thank you notes in our stockings..the best were personalized with a pen. Also a penny from the year (2009). I now stuff these in the stockings with the typical orange, candy, dollar store toys.

I always put a special tree ornament in our stockings. I try to remember to write on them (discretely) who they are to and the year and it is fun to reminisce as we hang them every year afterward.

Recently heard about making a puzzle out of a photograph on mpix.com. Don't know if that counts as a toy or not...

I do stockings for my kids, husband and parents. For the kids, my two favorite things are a new ornament and fun socks. For my husband, I get him travel size toiletries since he is gone a lot and for my Mom and Mother in law, they usually get a pocket calendar, mini soaps and lotions and the dollar gloves from target.

i always do fun toothbrushes, bubble bath, but this year i am excited to have found KOOKY KLICKERS- which are cool pens that my kids love. My 4 year old is so into star wars, much like your simon & i found a set of these on ebay that were star wars themed, darth, luke, bobba fett & c3PO- (he will be going to kindergarten next year & i am hoping to get him to have some intrest in writing his name, because it is still a big headache to try to get him to put some effort into this...)For my other son i found a sponge Bob themed set

We always get new pyjamas. Each year I give my daughters a charm for a bracelet - the charm reflects something significant from that year eg shoes when they walked, favourite toy etc. I have a page in their scrapbook where I add the charm and special memory. Hubby always gets a new cap.

For kids: glow sticks (lately have been in the $1.00 section of Target & Michael's); playing cards that are personalized with your own photo; fun school supplies for the new year (funny shaped calculator, erasers that are shapes, colorful paper clips or jump rings); journal; socks of course; soft hats are usually easy to fold up in a stocking; magazine subscription; cards to write to others; in Barnes & Noble they always have those rounders with little kits on them... like a mini zen garden or a planting thing, those are good if you find one that fits the person; tea bags; mini frame, key chains; coasters . . . good luck shopping! :)
