Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

When my kids were teenagers, I would buy trendy grooming products - Lush, Body Shop... and then gift cards were always popular, too.

Baseball Cards are a favorite of my husband and sons. I've been doing that since the boys were babies, so the boys have quite the collection.

I love all the 'office' type stuff my mom puts in stockings... but some of my favorites are the post-its & page tabs... I also love a mini puzzle and the ornament we typically get in our stockings... sometimes even a pair of flip flops is fun! hope you pack them full of fun... they are one of my favorite parts of Christmas morning!

My kids are older - teens - but the gift cards to a restaurant they like (even fast food) works. For those days when they want to do something after school but mom doesn't have cash in pocket. "Hey, can we stop by starbux or jack in the box?" Also dice - we learned an easy dice game recently that has the kids playing together, you need 6 die and each kid having their own set is fun. Good for quick adding and subtracting games too. But there is one in the catalogs called "Left, right, center" you play with die and chips. This I found to be great for younger kids - easy counting and learning left and right. And even if youlove all your chips you still stay in the game because you can still win more.

My mom--I mean Santa--always rolled up one dollar bills and put a little ribbon around them. It was exciting because we didn't know how much it was and it just looked pretty. I think she did more for the older kids than the younger ones.

how about a treasure map or scavenger hunt. this could work for any child that reads and depending on your child can be as hard or as easy as you like. for example we do a scavenger hunt for easter baskets and the kids have a riddle/picture taped to their bedroom door that they solve to find the next clue until it brings them to the hiding place of their basket. (yes they think the easter bunny does this ;) and since we don't want to ruin any kind of santa beliefs maybe kids can search for a special little gift from mom and dad?? my kids absolutely love it and it great listening to them running around trying to solve the clues!

Something I want to pick up for my kids (school-age) that is carried at Learning Express (check online too) is the digital timer bookmark. They have to track how many minutes they read at night for school, so this sounded like a handy and cool item.
Mine always get a candy-cane tube of red and green M&Ms. Underwear, fun socks, a DVD, toiletry items, trading cards, McDonald's gift card, novelty candy (that I wouldn't usually buy otherwise), and if Simon is still into Legos, our Targets carry small boxes of Lego sets in their stocking stuffer section, they are usually figures I think.
Merry Christmas from Georgia!

put together a little "snowman making" kit: scarf, button eyes, hat, fake carrot from craft store.
