Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

Two ideas: My man loves cufflinks so a sweet gift specially wrapped in a small box. He loved the second, a beautifully wrapped box with a clue to the next clue. This was a day planned in advance to various places he enjoys going too, his favourite eatery, antiquing etc. I had the shop keepers give him the next clue, ending with a movie with coffee and dessert afterward (ok dessert was for me :) We both enjoyed the day to ourselves.

Did someone already say gloves? For women I love earrings. I have done booklights, disposable cameras, fun socks, gift cards, ornaments with the year on it, small pocket calendars, goodies from craft fairs..... I found a homemade yoyo and ball toss game this year for only $5 each!

My parents always bought us our expensive shampoo, conditioners, lotions, etc. that we couldn't always afford in High School or college and stuck them in our stockings. As my Mom always said, they filled the stockings up fast, were easy and she knew we'd use them. We would also get our annual Christmas ornament (picked out to show whatever we were interested in that year).

we do weird exotic fruits for my kids(like star fruit, passion fruit and horned melon). the kids think it's great. i know they're not "in season" here in the Northeast, but it's not something we usually get(And it's different than the oranges we got as kids)

My mom alot of times gave us lip balms, lotions, and little jewelry sets from Avon. She was able to get boy-themed chapsticks and bubble baths for my brother.

I have always given my kids a fun toothbrush in their stockings. I'd try to find one that represented their current interest - Barbie, Hot Wheels, etc. Now, at 20 and 22 years old, they still look for a new toothbrush, but it is way harder to find something fun!

In the past I have given these to my girls as gifts from us. Then they can take pictures all through our Christmas. Using them as a stocking stuffer would be a great idea.

The clip on mini lights are an excellent idea - off to find some for my girls for reading/coloring in the car at night when we travel. Thanks!!!
I usually put a Webkinz at the top of each stocking for DD's (11 and 7) so they can re-new their accounts for the next year. 7 yo still sleeps with her Webkinz.

My mom still gives us stocking stuffers (I'm 32 and my husband is 29). I love it though, because there are several things I can count on being there. New toothbrushes (usually with a sports/college theme), fancy deodorant (like a perfume brand name), and a lotion - things we all need but no one thinks about giving...

depending on age & hobby.... stickers, the gold coin chocolates, pencils, fun erasers, silly putty, kazoo, boo boo buddy, little necklaces, bubble bath, 'grow in water' sponges or washcloths, fancy pens, carmex, little $.99 gloves, coloring book, zipper pencil holder, pocket mirror, coffee card, gardening gloves, lotion, scented candles, fifty cent pieces, so fun to collect!!!
...and some of the others already mentioned. One thing I do too, is wrap the little items (in santa paper) so it's more fun to open -- and the opening lasts a little longer too! ;-)

Sheesh, you got A LOT of responses! I'm sure you don't need anymore, but how about reusable bags or totes that fold small? I think it's a great gift for adults or children.
Also... at The Container Store this year, a big seller has been a small, silicone hot clip (you can use it to take stuff out of the microwave). I saw them at Sur La Table today too.
Another good gift is microfiber cloths for TVs, photos, DVDs, CDs, computer screens, etc.

A fun mug, a roll of sellotape (my kids loved this) bag of dried apricots, seeds/bulbs in pre-packed little pots, tiny gardening tools, novelty soap (on a rope), sunglasses. last year the most loved stocking filler was a palm held heat pack with a little silver circle inside that they had to 'click/crack' and it had a reaction and got hot. They were only £1 and all Christmas day they'd carry around this little brightly coloured heat pack novelty.
