Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

My kids are really into Smencils right now. Large pencils that have a strong scent. At Barnes and Noble they have packs of Holiday scented ones. They may be perfect for Simon.

My kids like to get music CDs, gift cards, and little mini books (scrapbook kind, made by mom!) in their stockings (along with candy!).

I bought pancake shape molds to go in my nieces and nephews stockings last year. You just pour in the batter and out comes an airplane, train, butterfly, or flower. They were such a hit that this year I bought new shapes to add to their collection.

I do gadgets like pocket knives, or kitchen tools for my husband. I also like to add a moleskine or two since he loves them and uses them constantly. My dh doesn't really love candy, so I do treats like his favorite tea. Socks are always a good choice, too - cute ones. If the person is into crafting or art you can do small art supplies like India Ink pens, small sketch pads, paints, brushes, markers, crayons...depends on the age and the art! LOL!

I like to give craft supplies like ink pads etc as stocking stuffers. The kids love it 'coz it keeps them occupied for hours.

Themed socks, magnets/small picture frames for their own displays, toothbrush/toothpaste w/ their favorite whatever on it. Also flavored chapstick is a big favorite w/ my neices & nephews. For the 4 & over crowd, $5 gift cards to somewhere mom & dad go are also a big hit. My nephews (4 & 7) like to "buy their own" hot chocolate when their dad gets his coffee.

Socks, underwear (boring, I know). Pencils, lip gloss, pocket calendar for the upcoming year. This year, my girls are getting the items I purchased and stashed away for their Easter baskets...finally found the goodies!

I almost always do a toothbrush, a pair of fun seasonal socks, and a package of underwear in their stocking in addition to the usual candy and a small trinket or two.

In our home we all get a stocking, so if you celebrate Christmas at my house you get one...
We stuff them with fruit and candy/chocolate that is individual wrapped and last but not least a Christmas comic books /pamphlet, most popular is Donald Duck and Nemi (http://www.platypuscomix.net/otherpeople2/nemireturns.html )

We always got the expensive toiletries that we wanted but my mom never wanted to buy, like salon-brand shampoo, victoria secret lotions, etc. We also got lip gloss and such. But that won't help you much!
What about a coupon type book... "Mom cleans your room today" or "Skip any chore of your choice" type of a thing?
We also got "needs" in our stocking, undies, socks, deodorant, hair gel, lotion, etc.

Have you checked out the dollar aisle at Michaels? I picked up tin boxes of drawing pencils for my 12 year old daughter and some magic tricks for my 9 year old son the other day.

Scotch tape of their own, zinc Cold Eze lozenges, Nasturtium seeds, make up from dept store freebies in colors I will never use, colored pencils (bought individualy by the color at Michael's, after a few Christmases, they have a nice palette), picture frames, lip stuff. Our stockings are way too expensive, though. :(
