Looking For Non-Toy Stocking Ideas
Running errands and catching up on some stuff around here today and thinking about stocking stuffers. I would love to hear if you have any traditions/favorites that are not toys to go in a child's or an adult's stocking. Anything beyond books, movies, candy, oranges, etc?
Hope to have Days 7 & 8 of my December Daily up tomorrow.

-For a kid, a (cheap) watch.
-Glitter glues, craft supplies, stamps.
-Cookie cutters (also good for kids).
-Comic books. Pokemon cards or whatever cards they're into.
-New kitchen spatulas and nice wooden spoons. Measuring spoons and cups.
-A pocket knife. Key chain.
-Harmonica. Recorder.
-Miniature snow globe (my kids have always been fascinated with snow globes!)
-poster for the wall (rolled up, it fits quite nicely, albeit out the top...)
-Kid utensils (fork/spoon sets)
-Hockey tape (wait, that's my husband. Bet yours doesn't play hockey! Does he have a sport with a "consumable" item?)

K, so my hubby filled my stocking with lots of great things last year... here are a few.
Small scrapbooking supplies... like buttons, stickers, chipboard... and they were actually all in those little cute small jars! LOVED that.
A couple of shades of new nail polish
4 different $5.00 gift cards to my FAV places. One home decor place, a scrapbook store, a fabric shop, and a cute lunch place, that we love to eat at. It wasn't the amount of the gift card, is was that he KNEW I would go to those places, and thought that I would like a little "hubby coupon" when it came time to purchase. PS... everytime I used one of those $5.oo gift cards I thought of him. :)
Gossip magazines. He HATES them, and I NEVER buy them, but it was fun to get into my stocking and find about 5 different magazines, rolled up into each other. Like people, star, better homes and gardens...... just stuff he picked up, that he thought I would like. Plus when things settle down... I TOTALLY was flipping through those bad boys!
A sassy ring
A small level (yes a tool) ha, a little kit of those super small little screw driver things... you know that you unlock doors with, and get small toy screws out with?
Two free rentals at Blockbuster
Gosh... I know there was more... I just can't think of them. But it was the BEST stocking EVER... SERIOUSLY, I could have just gotten THAT, and been TOTALLY happy! :)
Hope these help at all.

My husband gets a bag of his favorite coffee grounds. This year he's getting a pocket magnifier that lights up too. Kids get the usual - small toys, things from dollar bins, but they are also getting book-lights too this year since they both love to read in bed. In years past I've included rolled up scrapbook paper and small punches in my daughter's stocking.

I found some great little craft projects at Micheal's last week. Some were painting related and some were coloring related.
I hope to do this when my son gets a little older (he is only 2 now), but have slips of paper for family movie night or a trip out to look at Christmas lights, pick what we are having for dinner, etc sort of things.

Crazy straws are always fun for the little ones. Also art supplies. They seem to run out about this time of year at school anyway so it is quite useful. Decks of cards are a big hit in our house too. Not just regular cards but other kid games too (Uno, Rummy, Go Fish, etc.).

the girls have always been able to get into their stockings before Mom and Dad wake up. they wont touch the other gifts. So a small pocket game, deck of cards, one year they got Yak backs...remember those. Small recording chip in them...to play back what you say.
A gameboy game, small flashlight, electronic fortune cookie....now that they are older, cool pens and handknit socks.
This year the 15 year old will be getting a small digital camera to hook onto her backpack. They can't use their phones at school, but it is cool to take pictues of your friends.

This will not work for you but it might make some of the ladies who read this laugh. My mom has, since we turned 12 and still does even though Im 22 this year, puts a box of tampons in our stocking. And true to her saying, you'll always need these at some point.
We usually also get a little day out with just her somewhere special taped to the box. That could be fun for your kids. A special day somewhere of their choice just you and them!

I always do magazines for everyone. Sometimes a special interest/hobby (like an astronomy magazine or quilting or cooking) or one of the Life or Time special issues that they come out with this time or year.
Other faves:
- chapstick (cause they always seem to disappear)
- razor blade refills (for the girls)
- perfume/body spray
My grandma always put a lottery ticket in everyone's stocking!

I also have a little girl and she is getting a new sippy cup, one of those cute beanies that the flowers attach to, some hair bows, a toothbrush, fruit snacks and some socks. Adults are harder but I always think of practical things like shaving cream and razors. My hubby is getting an iTunes gift card! Thanks for posting this...great ideas here!

Since we have always been an all adult household, stocking stuffers include lottery tickets and four toothbrushes (one for each quater of the year) and dental floss. No one in the house is a dentist.

Travel size cards or games for road/plane trips. We also like to give favorite restuarant gift cards as a treat as well. Special, keepsake ornaments are always a great gift, even ones that hold a picture.
