Simple Holiday Project: Paper Covered Word Blocks
I have a couple very small, simple projects I've been wanting to put together this season. The first is this set of paper covered blocks. I received the blocks as part of aJenni Bowlin project kit this past August. You can see that project here. The blocks are from Creative Imaginations and available here.
Using a glue stick and 6-8 different patterned papers punched with a 1.5 inch square punch I covered each side of the block and then used Christmas Red Stickles to draw the words and the E09 (I drew them just using the tip of the Stickles bottle). Kids could definitely participate in this project by adhering the papers to the blocks.

I didn't use Mod Podge or any sort of sealant on top of the papers because some of the papers I used had texture (flocking and glitter).
I like projects like this that are super simple (or can be more involved if you want to add more elements) and that come out just during this special time of year.
Remember this project? I pulled out this little 7gypsies Night Before Christmas spinner project that I started back in 2007 - I am hoping to finish it up this year. The ATC spinners are still available here if you are interested in starting one of these for yourself (great way to use up holiday products).

cute blocks ali! i had to laugh at the spinner-i loved your version and started one too...but never finished it. i've been eyeing it though in my craft room, so glad i'm not the only one who doesn't always complete a started project...

Love the block idea. I was thinking of making Happy Birthday blocks and then blocks with the name of the person celebrating.

Good for you to return to the spinner. Feels so good to comeplete project begun long ago. I'm filling an antique window with cool leaded glass panes. Mostly motivated by company coming soon. Would love to show the compelted project to houseguests. While i keep up with Dec daily and all the other work and STUFF.

I have a block calendar from Hobby Lobby that I'm going to alter for the new year, similar to your block project. I saw an inspiration piece on the Mod Podge Rocks blog. As a SAHM, I no longer wear a watch, or go to the office, or even look at a calendar each day, and I'm tired of not knowing the date! I'm not so out of it that I don't know the day, but the date...that's another story, ha.

oooh, I have been thinking of doing a Christmas spinner with all of the holiday tradtions/ history of our family to display every year. It will have to go on the back burner for me too because it is just too busy around here right now!

Love the blocks! I make a square ornament like that each year with my daughter's Christmas photo outtakes, and I've looked high and low for a true 1 1/2" square punch. Would you mind sharing the brand that you use?

Hi Jan - I wish I could be more helpful but I am not sure where that one came from. I have picked letters up in all kinds of random places (especially antique & junk stores) over the years (in addition to being given them as gifts). Ebay is another great place to look :).

My friend and I made the spinner last year. Mine is out and I was fortunate enough to read it to a friend's little boy just the other day. We added in the Christmas story from the Bible (rather appropriate for this time of year). It turned out great. Thanks for the idea!

Ali: I made paper-covered blocks for our nursery this summer. We didn't know the gender of our baby, so I used neutral papers and a few buttons.
