After moving to Portland this year looking for some new traditions to do in the city (thinking zoo lights). In Seattle we would alway take the family downtown and ride the carousel and ride in the horse drawn carriage.

My favorite Christmas tradition is making cookies from my grandma's cookies, giving some for gifts and eating my favorite cookie from grandma is Thumb Print Cookie. I miss it because I don't make them every year, but will make them next year, hopefully.

We have so many December traditions. My favorite would have to be taking the boys to see Santa at a local bakery shop that puts on a Country Christmas every year. It is so much fun and yet so simple!

My fave December tradition...definitely listening to the kids on Sinterklaas morning, eagerly waiting for us to unlock the front door so they can get their presents he left for them. The magic in their voices is so amazingly adorable and inspiring to believe.

We sing Letania which is a Christmas song representing when Joseph and Mary were walking through the streets and asking for room at the various inns. Also, everyone hugs each other at midnight and we wish each other a Merry Christmas.

We have several traditions but one that is so important to us is all going to Christmas Eve mass together as a family- our three families stop whatever we are doing in the holiday madness and come together for mass. It really brings home to meaning of Christmas for us.

We go to downtown and look at the beautiful tree in Pioneer Place and go to M&F I mean Macy's to Santa Land. The kids think that is the real Santa and enjoy the tradition year after year.

I really enjoy Christmas with my husband's family, which is always on the 31st. We all open presents and have dinner, then put the kids to bed. Afterward, the adults play a board game and drag ourselves on until the ball drops. Then, we anticlimactically drop into bed.

A December tradition is driving at a nearby neighborhood to view their holiday lights. It's so neat to now be able to show my own boys some of my all time favorite childhood decorations.

My favorite tradition is our annual tree-trimming party which is held the first Sunday in December. Last night our friends gathered together to help us ring in the holiday season. There's nothing better!

Ali, You always have the best giveaways! Let's see my favorite December family tradition would have to be making Christmas cookies with my boys. They are only 8 and 4 years old, so the cookies usually end up being eaten as fast as we make them (ok I'm guilty too!) With the leftovers being left out on Christmas Eve. Just don't tell Santa he gets the leftovers! Enjoy this first Christmas as family of four! Dianne

Some of my favorite Christmas traditions are; putting up the tree and decorating it, making buckeye candies with my children to leave for Santa Christmas Eve, and letting the children open one gift on Christmas Eve which is always a new pair of pajamas.

My favorite tradition is prepparkokker cookie decorating day. Prepparkokker is a Swedish spice cookie which my children and grandchildren have taken to new hights in decorating. Traditionally these cookies would only have a trim of frosting, but we tend to let our creativity flow when it comes to decorating them. I am thrilled that this tradition is something my grandchildren look forward to, and now my 18 year old granddaughter has brought along her boyfriend.
