You Are Worthy : You Are Enough : Brené Brown DVD Giveaway
Tags:For quite a number of years now, I have believed that scrapbooking is a way to own our story.
Through documentation and exploration and simply getting the story down on paper we come to know ourselves better. And as my friend Dr. Brené Brown says, "we gain access to our worthiness."
I first met Brené, a researcher, writer and professor, a few years back at our now annual Oregon Coast summer retreat. She is an exceptional woman who inspires me in so many ways, most especially through her concept of wholeheartedness. We bonded over some of our "better" type-A qualities, years & years of swimming, good old sarcasm, and the fact that we both "like our crazy right up front."
Karen did a great interview yesterday with Brené here.
This week Brené is celebrating the release of her new DVD titled The Hustle for Worthinesswith a Week of Worthiness on her blog. To help her celebrate I am giving away one of these DVD's today.
One of my favorite ways to celebrate "who I am" and "what I believe" is to capture the ordinary moments of life - the moments that tell the real everyday stories of our family. Leave a comment below sharing one of your favorite ordinary moments for a chance to win Brené's new DVD.
Comments will be closed tonight at 8pm Pacific with the winner posted shortly after.

There's a quote from StoryPeople that I really like:
"Time stands still best in moments that look suspiciously like ordinary life."
A glimpse of one of our ordinary moments: Playing ping-pong every night with my 14 yr old son...we get to chat about his day. Love that he still wants to spend time with his old mom :)

Sitting down at my computer, coffee in hand, prepared for a better day than yesterday. Opening an e-mail; yet another friend is pregnant. I am joyful for her, but my heart cracks and I start to cry. I text my husband, "Life is not fair," and he knows it will be another sad day for me. I say a prayer and hope my friend knows how blessed she is.
[I just reread your post and see I'm supposed to leave a *favorite* ordinary moment. So I'll add one: the ritual of filling the coffee maker every morning, the smell of the cinnamon coffee grounds, the gurgles and hisses as it brews, the grip of my favorite mug, the warmth, and the possibilities for the day ahead.]

This may sound weird...but last night, I helped my husband bottle beer...sitting on the floor in our mud room filling beer bottles and chatting about all sorts of topics. My hobby is scrapbooking; his hobby is brewing beer. We both enjoy the results of each other's hobbies and help each other when necessary. I love sharing this life with him.

my little guy growling like he is a monster and then turning to give me a huge, wicked grin, followed by a big wet 2 year old kiss. then back to the growling and yelling of course. those are the best moments.

My parents are 68 and 70 years old and the same as they ever were. Yesterday as I dialed the phone for our daily early AM phone call, I was just struck by how happy I am that this is part of a normal day. I know things won't be like this forever.

LOVE Brené, she is so authentic and accessible. My ordinary moment, right now, I'm getting my son ready to head out to his hockey. What other way to spend Spring Break than by practicing something you love?

Taking that extra moment to tenderly touch and pet my sleeping kitty right on top of her head, and watching her continue to sleep peacefully, confident that I am there to protect and love her. You can't rush that!

We pick up our 6-year-old grandson at his kindergarten and take him (twice a week) to his afterschool program at a local gym. This is one of my best times because he talks, really talks, to us about his day, things he's thinking about, how he feels about stuff. For example, some recent toics were when he didn't sleep well because he was worried about something, let me know he needed some extra consuling when his cat died (had been there all his life), a difficult situation with a classmate. He doesn't speak this way to his parents....it's a special multi-generational bond, a closeness that brings us great joy.

One of my favorite ordinary moments occurs at 7:20 each weekday morning. It's at this time that I walk with my kids (9 & 12) down to the corner to wait for the school bus to pick them up. While they're old enough to do this themselves, I enjoy these last few moments to chat and laugh before we all begin our work & school day!

Sitting on our front porch swing in the summer with my husband. It always draws our kids out of the house and we end up having some wonderful conversations.

A kiss every time before either me or my husband leaves the house...you never know what may happen and I want to give and receive a kiss so a warm thought is what is left with us if something was to happen.

One of my favorite ordinary moments is when I have a few minutes alone with one of my four children and we can just sit and talk about stuff. Having 4 kids makes the alone time with just one of them challenging!
