My mother served with the WACS in England and France during World War II and after returning to the US she earned her pilots's license. This sense of adventure and following your heart has long been an inspiration to me.

My mom taught me that you can do anything that you put your mind to it. I hope to pass that wisdom on to my daughter.

I would always ask my mom, "How do you do all that you do?" Her reply, "You do what you have to do!" I have always referenced that phrase when I need to get through something I'm not so fond of doing. It has kept me going and helped me finish well!

Manners, my mother taught me to have manners. If you hold yourself like a lady you will feel strong and confident. At 83 she still eludes that quality in all she does. My children understand the need for manners as it shows in their politeness and curtsey towards others.

A life lesson my mom taught me is that "tone" matters - how you talk, all the way down to your tone makes a difference to people around you. My mom taught me SO many life lessons and I am so very grateful to have her, even today, so that she can continue to be a woman of influence in not only my life - but the life of my children.

I think one of the greatest life lessons my mom taught me was patience with boys. I've always heard stories of my brother and the things she did with him to channel his energy. Now that I have three boys of my own, she's helped me to see when things aren't such a big deal or how to handle their seemingly endless energy (especially my oldest). I love to watch her with them because, in doing so, I learn so much about how to forget my expectations and just focus on them.

My favorite life lesson is that sometimes you just need to throw mashed potatoes in someone's face. Really literally my mom started a food fight during a rough time in my childhood and the whole family remembers it as the shining moment of laughter in that time.

My Mom taught me not to take life too seriously. She could always see the humor in tough situations. I really struggled with this when my kids were babies and toddlers. I am so thankful for my Mom for teaching me to laugh when you are covering in baby vomit! I miss her so much.

When one of us would reply, 'but everyone is doing it' my mom would let us know that she was 'not everyone's mom, I am your mom and you are not doing it.' I use it with my boys often.
Thank you for the chance to win. Happy Mother's Day!

My mom taught me to love the Lord with all my heart. It is the best lesson we can teach our kids. In all the up and down of life, having this constant to hold on to, and knowing He holds on to me, gives me perfect peace. Through this also I have learned to treasure all the little blessings and experiences of life every day. Scrapbooking our family life is the most rewarding and fun way to share my view of life with others.
I so appreciate the everyday special things you also celebrate on this blog. All the seemingly little things are what come together and make a home. The big things and vacations are great, but it is in the daily life our family's know they are loved and valued. I hope that is what my kids will remember their mom taught them.
Keep up the great work Ali.

My mom taught me about true friendship that I often refer back to over and over again. She taught me that it isn't about the number of friends one has, but the quality of the friendship and that if I have 3-4 truly amazing friends I have it made in gold. One can have other good friends, but it might not be as strong and that is fine, too. People come and go in our lives for a reason. Embrace both kinds of friendship for they both have value.

My mom has taught me so much, including that getting an education is SO important... no one can take it away from you. For Mother's Day, I made my mom a book of photos and things I've learned from her over the years (shhh, don't tell her!) Happy National Scrapbook Day, and Happy Mother's Day tomorrow!
