I actually love this, Lyn's comment is great, and made me laugh. I'm glad she didn't get too upset at seeing the finished product either... as my only worry would be her self-esteem if she only had this as a photo of herself to look back on in the future. I love how you are always taking photos, I do that for my sister a lot as I take most of the photos for our family. I am not usually sorry I took the photo even when the faces aren't happy as sometimes the moment is funny or needs to have a different perspective... as long as it's not because I've invaded their privacy. Hoping next year's school photo is better :)
Love school photos for this very reason! One year I got the photos and saw my son's shirt was on INSIDE OUT! I asked him if the photographer didn't mention it, and he replied"yes, but I didn't care" ha! That photo captured so many stories- what our mornings were like at that time (rushed), what his attitude was, etc.
What did adorable and hilarious Anna say she was thinking?
I agree that school picture is not perfect than what we take ourselves or professional photographers. My son who is 12. The last few years was turned great except this year. His bangs was covered half of his eyes (I need to remind myself to get his hair cut before picture day) and he wear bike helmet on his way to school and mess his hair and he brush the wrong way (he does different than mine) so It does not look great. But he do not want do Retake in future date. I find that picture background always boring and same thing each year!
Ali, I love Anna's picture. For 3rd grade my mom curled my hair and then put my hair into 2 pony tails, one on each side of my head and as it turned out I had Nellie Olsen's hairdo exactly, not a fond memory at all. As the teacher passed out the pictures she even said my hair was just like Nellie's, I think I cried!
Haha the picture reminds me of a school picture of my brother who looked down and completely ignored the camera - why are school photographers soo naturally UNtalented at taking portraits of kids?! Well, looking at school photographs is always hilarious but I wouldn't want my grandchildren to see them :D
I am a school photographer in England and these comments make interesting (and sad) reading. Trust me its hard to get every child to smile naturally when they're faced with a studio set up, big lights and all. I obviously cannot speak for all school photographers, but I do try to get the best shot I can of the child. I do look at my laptop and check the photo. If I'm not happy with it I'll take another. I wish that every child I'm photographing gets a perfect photo, but unfortunately that isn't going to happen 100% of the time. And you know what I go home and I remember those children I didn't get a good shot of and that makes me sad too.
Oh Ali we all have one (or more) of these (the world over!) LOL - in fact I've received one and thought OMG they can't get any worse than this can they? and, you guessed it, they sure do - the very next year!
This is too cute! I always bought the school pictures - no matter what. Now I have started the same thing with my little grandson. Can't wait to receive them!
This made my morning! I'm sure Anna will fully be able to appreciate in 10-15 all the photos you did take of her at this age once she looks back on this one!
Amen! I "saw the light" when my MIL removed the school portrait from the frame I gave her and replaced it with a photo I took of my child. Funny that I had to hear her say that my photos were better / captured the essence before I started to believe it myself.
she looks so shy :) I'd still purchase it though.
My eldest son's school photos though... I had to have retakes taken, AND he still gives the school photographer a fake, one side of the lip turned up half smile. It looks so forced! Even on the retakes he does the same 'cheese smile'. I skipped two years worth of school pictures, because he is the most photogenic kid when I take them off-guard and he's not posing for me.
