photo series

Ever look back over your photos to see similarities between different times? I like finding little goodies like these - doorway photos - they tell great individual stories and cool stories over a period of time. Here's one from this last week on the coast and one from last Easter:

Door

and

Door2

Sometimes they are spontaneous and sometimes they become planned - you take a shot, you love it, you repeat it again in a different environment. I love seeing images that do this sort of thing over time. Here's a You Tube video that showcases this idea over time: Me: Girl takes pic of herself every day for three years (updated link). I can imagine tons of different ways this could play out in scrapbooking. Goes along great with the idea of an album in progress - one that will never be done until you are gone (or you stop creating). Love that idea of a chronicle that looks at something very specific over time. Maybe I could take a photo of Simon eating breakfast everyday - mundane but remarkably beautiful.

Lots of thoughts mulling around in my head today. The camera is in hand and I am ready.

Great idea for chronological pictures. It would be wonderful to see how our children change from day to day. Their mannerisms ever changing. Taking pictures at a certain time everyday would display how they change for sure! Great insite, Ali. Thank you again!

I love "sleeping child" pictures and "playing with a toy intently" pictures... My poor DH always asks why so many??? I say, because...
Cool to hear about the Simon chatter increasing.(from your last post)

Your link isn't working but.. I am reminded of something I saw on VH1's web junk 20
"Noah takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B26asyGKDo Quite impressive.

Love the idea of taking the same picture everyday.....I started to take a photo every once in awhile out my front door and I think I will start doing it daily - same time everyday. Then journal and see how the year of daily photos go........GREAT IDEA - THANKS Ali!!!

This is along the same lines as the doorway - my SIL takes a picture around the same time every year of her son in one of his daddy's dress shirts (white button up, typical office attire). It is cute as can be and also illustrates the amazing difference a year makes in the development of a child.

I love the texture of the place (Simon is perfect in it, too). Something about just a glimpse of books, a glimpse of the garden, a glimps of the bricks and siding...very cool!

I love that the colors are opposites. In the first it's a blue door with a green sweater, and the second it's the reverse. That was actually the first thing I noticed...weird!

Here is that synchronicity thing going on again.... this is something I have been thinking of since my photography teacher Sian mentioned to me {a few weeks ago} that she has a friend who has been doing it for seven years (every night before bed she takes a quick snap of herself).
It really resonated with me as something along the same lines as morning notes (which I am finding difficult enough) !!! And something great for scrapping.
All sounds so good in theory... but I am yet to speak to anyone who actively practices these wondeful notions. I will try. It is on my list... my ever growing list *grin*
The more items on the list.. the more inspiration to draw from.
Thanks for your links yesterday... I am LOVING Oh Joy!!
Thanks for your continued inspiration. You rock Ali !
    Cheers
    Bek :-)

What strikes me about these photos is the change in Simon! Look at how much more confident he looks in the recent one! I saw that in the shots of him holding his new baby cousin, too. Beautiful! You're doing a great job with him!

Throughout the year when ever my girls have a special event or participate in something ( like their prom, ring dance ) or the first day of school I take a picture of them in front of the door in our foyer. I may have to go back and turn some of those pages into a mini album.

I once did a layout of time repeating itself too. I love how that happens.

After our hard drive crashed this week I just want to remind anyone who hasn't saved photos in one way or another to do so. Ali, you have been great about reminding us and it was one of those things I was going to get to ... only the last year and half didn't get done yet and now is lost. Seeing your great photos just reminds me and hopefully someone who hasn't will back up and save the heartache of losing photos. But I am telling myself ... it is ok - (I think) :)

it's been a tradition in my family for at least 20 years to take family pics at christmas in front of the same set of closet doors...it's fun to look back at the pics and see how everyone has changed...my mom did a scrapbook tribute to the "door pictures"!

That's a great idea, Ali. I am loving all the inspiration I'm finding on your blog and in the newsletter. One of my many goals over Christmas break is to make an art journal.
