Tags:Just picked Simon up from school. The report today from Miss Thelma: Simon was pointing to the letters in his name (on his desk nametag) and spelling his name :). We have been working on this at home but it was the first time she had heard him. Without prompting. Way to go dude.
For those that don't know, Simon is speech delayed. At almost three he says only a couple two word phrases. He has quite a few words that he does say, sometimes regularly and sometimes irregularly. He has really been improving on his two-syllable words lately - such as bubble and apple. He is supposed to begin speech therapy soon, and be re-evaluated by EC Cares (an early intervention program) when he turns three in January.
Spelling his name for Miss Thelma (especially without any prompting) is so cool!

Hi Ali, I've just recently found your blog from OLW. My youngest is also on the spectrum, and has his "official" diagnosis testing next week.
I was just wondering, how old Simon was here? My Max is 3yrs 4 months and has *just* started in the last 2-3 months coming out with words like "please" "mummy" (YAY!!), and "nooo"... obviously the one thing I'm pinning my hope on is that he will be able to talk and communicate his needs to me one day, hopefully with ease!
Sorry for the out of the blue questions, but I'm sure you remember well the need to know how Simon could be? Or maybe that's just me...
Anyway, I LOVE the blog, and photography!

Hi Marilyn - I think he was almost three at this time.
Without knowing more about Max and his overall situation, that's so awesome that he's beginning to have words! Over the last six years Simon has really progressed and developed (still with lots of different challenges - just like all people have their own challenges) - there's always been some sort of forward movement (with lapses from time to time).
We try not to think too far ahead - it's way to easy to get caught up in the what if's and wondering about what life will be like for him in the future. We do a lot of celebrating every little thing today and working on ways we can help him be successful right now.
Blessings to you -
