Digital Rebel.
Tags:I had a comment posted from Gina yesterday asking about my camera. I am using a Canon Digital Rebel - lately with a fixed 50mm lens. The lens came highly recommended by my kick-butt photographer friends. It is great for those shots when you want some blurring around the edges (with a close-up subject) and it is only $75. The other lens I have is a Sigma 70-300mm. Love that one too but man it is heavy.
In the scrapbooking world this type of photo of oneself infront of a mirror has become common. I love it because it is such a great representation of our lives as visual recorders. Living behind the camera. It is also a good reminder that we need to come out from behind the camera and make sure that we are taking the time to chart our own lives, recording our own personal stories, tribulations, and triumphs. Blogs are such a good outlet for this.
Keri Smith had an awesome quote of her blog the other day which totally tugged at me: "Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that's why I made works of art." --Felix Gonzalez-Torres (fr. Adbusters Vol 13)
And finally, Chris started his own blog yesterday: oregon sunrise. The name, I must say, is brilliant. It was all him. I am so excited for him to have an outlet to share his thoughts on politics and our culture. He has such a great mind and a passion for people.
Tonight is Sunday. Ah the joyful routine of 60 Minutes and a big bowl of popcorn. And we even have some beer on hand.

This is really what life is all about. Living the moments and taking pause to reflect on the blessings of life.
I take pause here to reflect on the "what do you covet" blog posted here a few days ago. Man! I covet your camera. Wicked cool!

Love that quote, Ali. I like printing out great quotes like that and placing them somewhere in my house where I will see them often and be able take some time to reflect on the message and apply it to life. Love that camera too! Care to share the name of the 50mm lens?

THAT is the coolest quote i have ever heard. Damn! wow.
you know what, Ali? I'm actually thinking of selling my Nikon D70 on eBay and jumping ship to Canon for digital. The 20D. I'm so tired of not getting good color with the nikon, and tedious post processing.

I have the 70-300 mm Sigma lens for my camera too. And, yes, I think that sucker is heavy. Glad to know that it isn't just me.

Love my digital rebel. I got it for Christmas last year and have taken over 10,000 pictures since then. (the counter automatically resets its self)
yes the 70-300 is heavy, yes the 50mm is too cool. Love that it is so fast-takes great photos without a flash. Too cool!

Ali, I just copied the quote from Keri Smith's Blog. I love it. Similar to the Ecclesiastics 3:1-8 scripture that we talked about the other day...a time for every purpose under heaven. Art, especially scrapbooking, can be a artist way to leave a mark.
"Leaving a mark that I existed," it's definitely all over this house in Federal Way.
