Miss Lily.
Tags:My sweet girl. My companion. She is such a sounder - meaning that she will bark and bark and bark but probably not do anything about it. Today she busted under the fence in the back when a lone dog was cruising down the path. She just wants to play. To say hi - not all dogs are like that - lucky for me she comes back when I call her. She is my constant companion during the day. Ready to go at any move I make. Such a good heart.
And thinking of good, I am having that feeling that I want to purge all my things again. Dreaming of a more modern aesthetic: clean and sleek with touches of old things here and there. An individual living style. Feeling cluttered. One of my dreams has always been to have all whilte dishes. Old thick, white dishes. Ones with substance. Ironstone. I have that dream of chucking everything I have and starting all over. Maybe it was from staying at the Westin last weekend - and sleeping in what they call the Heavenly Bed. Man, that all white bed is totally my dream.
What's the deal with white?

I'm with you on the white Ali.
So clean and crisp. So fresh.
I love my bed: queen size, feather bed top, white duvet, lots of white pillows. It's a good place to spend the night.

Love clean. I have big heavy white plates from Pottery Barn. I bought em like, five years ago. When i put food on them, it just looks better.
Oh yeah...you are making my dog fever go up a notch.

As for having a modern asthetic, I am quite the minimalist. But that's because we are in the military and move every few years. You learn what's important and what you can really live without.
Take it from someone who HAD all white heavy dishes. They are QUITE the pain in the dupa. I packed them all away in lieu of all white fluted Corelle that don't chip, crack, or break when you look at them !! Especially now that we have a son, I have a feeling this was a good idea...

That wonderful colour white. I think it is just our desire for that clean and crisp feel.

What a beautiful dog! I can see how he's such a great companion...you can see it in his eyes.
How funny your talking about new dishes. I recently blogged about wanting new solid "eggplant" colored dishes. I'm having a hard time justifying it, but ohhh, I want those dishes. And after I wrote about it, I thought they would look nice paired with plain ivory dishes. I love that look of a solid colored salad plate on top of an ivory dinner plate. It's funny that Gina mentioned the military/frequent moving factor though. I totally stress about my beautiful dishes when we move. I lose a few plates on our overseas move.
As for the all white bed, ahhhh. Love all white beds. Dreamy.

I don't know how to edit my comment, but I called your sweet dog a boy, and she's a she. Ooops! SHE is a beautiful dog. :)

Lily is beautiful. I want a dog. Sigh. I love dishes too. That is the next thing I am going to get, a set of white. I love old things as well (especially dishes). But then I am prone not to use them. I just need to get over that. Well, maybe when Thomas is just a little older.

When people have asked me what my favorite color is in the past, I always quickly reply with "white".
"White is not a color" several have responded.
I beg to disagree!
The dictionary defines white as
"The achromatic color of maximum lightness; the color of objects that reflect nearly all light of all visible wavelengths; the complement or antagonist of black, the other extreme of the neutral gray series. Although typically a response to maximum stimulation of the retina, the perception of white appears always to depend on contrast."
Even the definitition is clean and crisp :)
WHITE: definitely the most amazing color in my mind!

I totally understand what you mean about white dishes. No, mine are heavy ironstone, but a nice everyday set that I got from Ikea about 7 years ago. I have several other sets in a variety of colors, but somehow it's the white dishes that I always pick up first. :-) (Have you ever noticed that most pictures of food are taken on white dishes?? Yum!)
I was also wondering about the 'embellishment' on Miss Lily's photo. Is that from one of the digital kits on 2 Peas? Just curious.

Your Lily looks like a sweetie. We can't wait to be homeowners for many reasons but one of the biggest is so that we can finally adopt a dog. We have wanted one for years now, a loving companion for our small boys. We have looked at all different types of breeds, but love labs!!! They seem like such loyal, friendly, loveable, gentle companions. Ah, can't wait for that day to come. But for now our fish will have to do.

Right there with you on the concept of simplification. Maybe because it's almost spring...clearing the cobwebs (figuratively and literally). Probably also because I'm moving in a few months, so the concept of "stuff" is very apparent right now. Looking forward to scaling back, keeping only those things that have real meaning to me.
Also been wanting some white dishes. Don't know quite what it is about them, just love 'em.

Miss Lilly would love my girls, Star and Rocket! So how do you handle all the black hair in your house? My dogs are making the transition to outside dogs in our new house. I just can't handle the hair....what a terrible person I feel like.

I think Spring is in the air because I'm feeling the need to renew and refresh as well. But for me, it's all about new linens. I already have a whole set picked out from Restoration Hardware...now off to find some funding (Jack, oh Jack!). And your sweet picture of Lily makes me want a real dog even more. We're making do with stuffed animals for now. It just isn't the same though. Love your site by the way! :)

It's all in the name... my Lily is also so sweet, loving, and constantly with us. There is no greater joy for her than to be by our side. The devotion of this awesome dog adds immeasurably to our lives. I can't imagine not having her companionship. But my Lily is cuter than your Lily (no, I'm not biased a bit LOL!!!)
