All hail the mess.
Tags:Take a look at my life. Most of you know I am a self-proclaimed organized person. Does this look like the space of someone who prides themselves on having things in their place?
No.
But you know what? It is a sign that I am working! That I am busy. That I am producing and creating and living. And the proof is everywhere around here - spilling (or puking as we tend to call it) out of my studio and onto the table and couch in the dining area. Maybe it is a sign that I am embracing the side of my brain that dreams of creative chaos. That sees the life in the mess. The beauty in the creative motion of messiness.
So three cheers for messiness.
And what am I lovin in my messiness?
And ALL these. Seriously. YUM.
And you know I am obsessively cleaning it all up right now don't you? That I can only stand it so long...
And DD has created a blog. You go. You know you are one of my favorites. All I have to say is tater tot.

Holy crap, batman! How is your head not exploding over there?!? :p (Exactly what my dining room table looks like right now. Well, except for that cool basket...that...holds 12x12? Where'd ya get it? And that extremely highlight-y and organized list of what I assume is a record of publication/payment, lol. In a binder even. I'm so proud of you!)
Yep, create...embrace the mess! (for a minute. Then clean up that sty, would ya?!?! :D) d :)

From my perspective I'm jealous! I wish I could come play at your house. You're like the cool kid who always has the new toys first! Have fun creating and cleaning.

I find both organization and chaos to be creativity inducing. Sometimes when I sit down at my clean space I can't do anything until I have pulled out 20 things and spread them all over and then the perfect idea appears. Other days it is the process of cleaning my work space that brings out my creativity. I am a believer in a place for everything and everything in it's place but sometimes the proper place is right in the middle of the desk.

that looks scarily like my space! I always say that if it's messy, it means i'm creating. if it's neat, it usually doesn't stay that way for long! :)

Ali, seeing your mess today after reading the rest of your blog earlier this morning, gave me such a feeling of relief! My desk isn't as messy actually, but I haven't been motivated to scrap either. I have tons of "little projects" to work on though and I think I'll head that direction right now. Good Luck getting re-organized!!!

It gives me some degree of comfort that yours is messy as well. Although I think mine is worse, it is an absolute disgrace. I was using the top of the sewing machine as a workspace. All twenty square inches. I finished my project today and I'm on a quest to clean!

... "embracing the side of my brain that dreams of creative chaos ..."
OMGosh, you make it sound so eloquent! LOL! Sadly, that is what my space looks like on most days. I figure I've either got time to organize, or I've got time to scrap. (Guess which one wins? LOL!)

My scrapbooking stuff looks like that daily.. It is so wonderful to see someone who actually gets paid to do it, with the same type of messy creative process. LOVE IT... Also have to say a huge thankyou for the recommendation of the book Encyclopedia of an ordinary life. It is hilarious and I am only 50 pages in.
