Lots of cool things to share with you today. Been here scrapping/working/etc and coming across lots of goodies online. Things that are making me happy.
So here you go for your Saturday afternoon viewing pleasure:
1. This American Life : if you have never listened to this program I highly recommend it. Totally great stories about life, humanity, silliness and seriousness. I have listened to about five episodes over the last couple days, intermixing the programs with a little music here and there.
2. The music I have been listening to:
• Johnny Cash singing U2's One and Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down from American III - Solitary Man (downloaded from iTunes).
• The Weepies per Andrea. I have listened to this CD over and over and over the last few days. Something in the melodies is so perfect to me right now.
• Jimmy Buffett signing Crosby Stills Nash & Young's Southern Cross. Seriously one of my favorite songs of all time. First introduced to that song in college. An old sorority house had been sold and rented to a bunch of guys who became my friends. Crazy fun guys who had HUGE parties on the top floor. There was a band that used to play there and they covered Southern Cross. I was in heaven every time they sang that song. Fragile Thunder - that was the name of the band. Ah, the memories.
3. Loving these adorable organizers from Good Morning, Morning! I got the green one on the bottom.
4. This book that Annie sent me for my birthday: Scaling Down: Living Large In A Smaller Space. Totally into this book right now. Making me think twice about everything I own...in a good way. I want to only have what I love and really need here. No excess. They really walk you through the process and address those underlying emotional issues that make people hang on to so much stuff.
Also wanted to say thanks for all the comments on my Thanksgiving post. So, so nice. We had a relaxing Thanksgiving with Chris' parents and grandparents. Simon ate tons of mashed potatoes - he even licked the potato beaters just like it was cookie batter. Ate tons. Chilled. All good.

Ali,
Not usually on this website, (in fact never) but you can thank my wife. I just happen to be looking over her should when I saw the music you are listening too. I have been on a Johnny Cash kick lately myself. Try the tribute album, lot of Hall of Famers singing Cash Classics, from Bruce Springsteen to Hank Williams Jr. My two boys (Nathaniel 4 and Nicholas 3) and me love to sing Hank Williams Jr's version of "Big River." Our favorite verse is "Make a Weeping Willow Cry, Cry" Of course, that is the only verse N&N remember. Take Care and Enjoy!
Your new fan,
Ed

Thanks for The Weepies recommendation. and might I suggest a group called "Girlyman". They were the openers at a Dar Williams concert a few weeks ago and they are great. They have been described as Michael Stipe meets the Indigo Girls or a modern edgy peter paul and mary. I think both of these descriptions are sort of accurate, but in general I just think that they are really good and that you might enjoy them.

I'm a huge TAL fan Ali. I think I've listened to all of them while scrapping. Have you listened to David Sedaris's Santaland Diaries? Hysterical. I can't remember which episode it is, but it is worth looking for :)
Also listened to a few snippets of the Weepies when I saw them on the Superhero blog. I liked, but didn't buy. You just convinced me :)

I ditto the "this American Life" I love that show. So real...I also love Story Corp...every Friday morning at 7:45 and you can go to the npr.org for a link...it is an awesome project. I want my mom and I to go into the story corp booth and have her tell me exactly how she decided to become a nun and then changed her mind.
