Have yourself a simple little Christmas...
Tags:So here are the photos from the simple Christmas book I put together at the crop at Scraptacular on Saturday night. There are so many other things happening during the holiday season - can't wait to just add photos and a bit of storytelling to this book.
The inside pages follow a very simple formula. A photo will go on the left hand side page (I am thinking of going with enlarged 9x9 photos - or 8x10's that I will trim down) - on the right hand side of the page are 9 punched circles. I chose patterns that each showcased a bit of red - there are a couple Christmas papers in there but for the most part the papers simply included red. The same 9 patterns are repeated on each right hand side page - to add variety I moved them around on the page.
The only embellishment I added was a sticker from the 7gypsies JOY sticker sheet and a star rub on from Basic Grey. I will be adding more stickers from the 7gypsies sheet once the photos are included in the album. I did ink the edges of the circles - some with brown and some with green.
The album itself is a 9x9 from Heidi Swapp. I also plan on adding a few ribbons along the spine. The numbers on the cover (2005) are from a 7gypsies rub on sheet - I believe it is a newly released one. So very cool.
So there you have it! Super simple to put together.
Also wanted to add in some photos from Scraptacular. Ever seen the girl on the right before? Can you believe she is stamping???? She even totally went outside her box and added a couple elements that go off the top of her page. I was so proud.
We never have the chance to sit in on one another's classes so it was cool to have Becky there :).
And here is me with Pam, the awesome owner, and Becky:
And last but not least, the super cool AE tree made by Stephanie (she is sitting next to Becky in the photo above).

Love the album Ali, so simple yet so divine. Love your mantra re: not making things more complicated than they need to be, words to live by this festive season!
Are there two sheets of green card stock in one page protector (1 for the circle layout and 1 for the photo, placed back to back) or will you just use the back of the circle layout to mount your photo? Did my question make any sense?
Happy Holidays

Ali--
fabulous book! Seems that I am always trying to make things so complicated, so I was just waiting to see your post about your "simple" Christmas book. And I loved it!! I also was wondering about how you will be journaling...around the edges of the paper? Will you be covering any of the circles? I love the idea of one pic on the left enlarged and info on the right. Make just have to make some of these for family. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

simple is a good thing, especially when your life is full (of things *to do*). love the concept and one that I need to apply to my pages. I get too caught up in the embellishment part and forget to focus on the story. thanks for the reminder that it can still be creative and beautiful when done simple. love how your boxes are in the background of your album. says so much about your life right now. happy thanksgiving!

From a little ole college computer graphic teacher in Ohio!
Just thought you would like to know this...
Elizabeth (Akers) Allen. 1832–1911
Rock Me to Sleep
BACKWARD, turn backward, O Time, in your flight,
Make me a child again just for to-night!
Mother, come back from the echoless shore,
Take me again to your heart as of yore;
Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care,
Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair;
Over my slumbers your loving watch keep;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!
Backward, flow backward, O tide of the years!
I am so weary of toil and of tears,—
Toil without recompense, tears all in vain,—
Take them, and give me my childhood again!
I have grown weary of dust and decay,—
Weary of flinging my soul-wealth away;
Weary of sowing for others to reap;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!
Tired of the hollow, the base, the untrue,
Mother, O mother, my heart calls for you!
Many a summer the grass has grown green,
Blossomed and faded, our faces between:
Yet, with strong yearning and passionate pain,
Long I to-night for your presence again.
Come from the silence so long and so deep;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!
Over my heart, in the days that are flown,
No love like mother-love ever has shone;
No other worship abides and endures,—
Faithful, unselfish, and patient like yours:
None like a mother can charm away pain
From the sick soul and the world-weary brain.
Slumber's soft calms o'er my heavy lids creep;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!
Come, let your brown hair, just lighted with gold,
Fall on your shoulders again as of old;
Let it drop over my forehead to-night,
Shading my faint eyes away from the light;
For with its sunny-edged shadows once more
Haply will throng the sweet visions of yore;
Lovingly, softly, its bright billows sweep;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!
Mother, dear mother, the years have been long
Since I last listened your lullaby song:
Sing, then, and unto my soul it shall seem
Womanhood's years have been only a dream.
Clasped to your heart in a loving embrace,
With your light lashes just sweeping my face,
Never hereafter to wake or to weep;—
Rock me to sleep, mother,—rock me to sleep!

Hi!
I love your album! Just a quick question. The quote on the front of your book - did you make it or buy it? You certainly have a gift! I love your stuff!

Can I just ask what kind of album you used for this? I've never seen a spiral bound album with page protectors before.
Thanks - you are so inspiring.
