Missed this one...
Tags:Missed seeing the dude as Tigger on Halloween. Thankfully, Chris has been trained really well in capturing stuff just like this. Chris took him out trick-or-treating. They went to about four houses and Simon said, "go home." That is so Simon. He loves just being here and following his regular routine.
Simon is really doing well. He is talking more - many things are still pretty tough to understand - but more words are coming all the time. One of favorite phrases that he says VERY well is: "may I have more waffles/juice/tostada please." Amazing the way he can get that whole thing out - by far his longest and best phrase. His newest love is Dora the Explorer - just discovered her the other day on In-demand cable. He has watched the same couple episodes over and over - and of course has the entire thing memorized. He crawled into bed with us this morning and was reciting something from Dora that we have not quite figured out yet.
He is so cool.

Ali,
Isn't it moving when they start to make those steps forward? My heart just gets too full when those things that just weren't coming, start to happen. Like talking, or playing WITH someone, instead of beside them, or a flash of a sense of humor. It shouldn't be better than when it happens with a neuro-typical kid, but it is. Sorry, I'm a bad mom. But there it is.
You have Dora, we had Thomas the Tank Engine. We were about trains for years. Now we are all about SpongeBob. And he can recite entire episodes, although it's hard to understand him, since he's laughing so hard at himself.
And Simon is so cute. Love that twinkle in his eye...

Our oldest used to do the monologue beginning from Star Trek: "these are the voyages of the starship Enterprise..." it was pretty amazing to hear the whole thing out of a three year old. But I really liked it better when his own original thoughts started coming out after he'd been in speech and language therapy for a while. Now that he's 16, I wish he'd keep some of his opinions to himself (LOL), but when I think about how far he's come...well, I can take it!
