Tags:So you guys know that I moved, right?
From a 2600 sq. ft. house into a 1300 sq. ft. duplex.
Talk about a great strategy for simplification. You figure out pretty quick what stuff matters and what stuff does not. I finally had a chance to evaluate our living space situation yesterday. I have been so busy that there were still boxes of stuff, scrapbooking stuff, kitchen stuff, toys, junk, "treasures" as my mom calls them, etc all over the place. I like order. I function better in order. Took some time yesterday and last night to get things in order. I feel so much better now.
The mess that is left will be moving upstairs to Chris' new office (in the third bedroom). He is getting a desk today and all his paper work will be moving into that space. For some reason, running for office tends to generate a lot of paper. It will be so nice for him to have his own set up. We can both stop asking one another, "have you seen...?" I swear that yesterday I lost the same thing at least five times.
So I did laundry. I put scrap stuff away. My table is still a disaster as I have pages in progress. I cleaned off the kitchen counter. I have a pork roast in the crock pot. I am feeling better. I think a lot of it has to do with focusing again on balance. Remembering that I need to take time for other stuff around here. Being in a small place requires a bit more daily attention to keep things in order.
INSPIRATION
A couple things I want to share:
• Loni's circle journal pages. Just check them out. She is amazing. So clean. Makes me want to scrap.
• Keri Smith's morning collage project. I love this idea. A bit like Julia Cameron's morning pages (from The Artist Way), but a whole different part of your brain is used. Such a cool idea.
And if you have emailed me recently, please be patient with me...I will respond soon.

I have been doing morning collages for a while now and highly recommend it to anyone who needs to stir up the mind and get things moving in a fresh direction. not really a scrapper but I don't think that's particularly relevant here. glad to see the link to keri's work (flickr is the shizz).

Isn't it funny how a move to smaller digs gets you thinking about deleting unnecessary objects.....
We recently had to move in with my parents into a home about the size of your previous place. With a 3 year old and a 24lb cat in tow.
Talk about having the mother-lode of all garage sales. Had no clue how much junk we had amassed through the years.
Long comment short, we now have 12 boxes total in the garage, and our denim sofa and coffee table in storage. The only things brought inside the house are our bedroom set, Emma's things, and current style clothing (the rest went to goodwill, where goodness knows they really need it!), and that's all, folks.
Lesson learned: I never want to go back to owning more than we need only to have to get rid of it in a pinch.
Embrace your new, smaller space!

Can you come to my place and organize all my junk now that you're done with your place? (:

I have noticed that owning a large house almost automatically means owning a lot of stuff. And once stuff reaches a certain critical mass, it starts to own YOU. I swear there are days when I can feel the weight of every knick-knack, house plant, cool new kitchen tool, and spare pillow piled up on my back, like I am actually carrying all my stuff around with me.
Biggets mistake of my life was replacing everything after a fire. We lost a lot of stuff, and it was really a grand opportunity to be free of it. BUt I dutifully shopped my way through every mall within a 3 hour drive and got ALL NEW STUFF. Looking back - huge mistake, opportunity lost. But I don't think going through another fire is the way to go. And leaving this house is not an option. So, maybe, actual discipline and self-control are called for. (can we say trouble?)
So how does Simon like the new place? Does the smaller space make him happy?

Whenever I want to feel on top of things - or at least give the illusion that I am - I put something in the crockpot.. there is something about knowing at 9:00 am that your family will actually have decent dinner at 6:00 pm!
