A Short { A } List.
Tags:Cool stuff to check out on a Monday:
• Junkyard Baby : I originally encounted this stuff at Urban Arts & Crafts in Kansas City. Loved it. Bought a bunch. EDITED:Oops - I fixed the link problem.
• The LOVE LIFE movement. I am totally inspired by this. Check out her other site too: IdeaMonsters.
• Ruth Adler : I just like her style.
• Deadwood. Chris started watching this show awhile back - did not sound like my "thing" at all. Now, I love it and we are just starting to watch the second season on DVD. Last night we watched a Behind The Scenes episode and it was awesome. The creator/writer had a ton to say about humanity and our use of language and on and on - I was so all over it.
• A new Yahoo group was started (through the message boards on Two Peas) for autism support. You can check it out/join here: 2Peas Autism Support Group. You totally don't have to be a Two Peas regular/scrapbooker to join - just happens to be a commonality :). Anyone is welcome. Thanks for taking the initiative on this Molly.

And today, I feel tender...my eyes fill with tears as I type this note for today is my son's birthday, a day always celebrated with great joy. This year, we will not give Erik a new stuffed animal or read Go Dogs Go or sing songs with him but I will buy a copy of A Slant of Sun instead.
Erik is an angel-he received his wings on September 9th at 10:56 p.m.-the same hour of his birth some 28 years earlier, and I was there with him, cradling him in my arms just as I had been 28 years earlier. My dear, little guy never grew up; he just got older. He had a very rare genetic syndrome that challenged him both physically and mentally but despite his low IQ, he was one of the smartest people I've ever met and though the syndrome stole his sight, he had tremendous vision. He walked late and with difficulty. Eventually he reverted to crawling. For the last six years, Erik was unable to sit or even turn himself over. The syndrome stole his words but not his expression-joy, gratitude, love... Though he could not even enjoy the simple pleasure of eating in the last years of his life, he managed to find joy and share it.
Erik was a rare and beautiful gift to this world. He touched the lives of countless people and his impact will be felt for generations to come. His three younger sisters and younger brother are the people they have become because of his example and love.
Today, I feel tender.

Ali: I am coming out to San jose for your class at the end of the month (my bday is the 24th, care to join me for a margarita?)
I am bringing you the Parents magazine from my area they had a great write up on autism in it with a lot of websites and centers mentioned in it. And MIT just o[emed a new 411,000sq ft Brain and cognitive Sciences Ctr- deemed the largest neuroscience center research center, for the research of autism and other brain disorders her in Cambridge MA. It looks like over the next 4-5 years Boston might become one of the big centers for autism because all of the key people are getting organized- key people being researchers, clinicians, neuroscientists, geneticists, pschologists, and doctors. Very interesting articles and not just the only one recently I have seen. I have been fortunate in that my son does not have it, but I hear of so many lately that have been diagnosed with it.
Looking forward to my class with you June 22-24 in Sane Jose.
