Been working on assignments today intermixed with setting up another evaluation for Simon. One of the recommendations from his original diagnosis was a re-eval after 12 months. Can't believe it has been even longer than that - amazing how fast time goes even when it sometimes feel like things are taking forever. Even setting up this appointment requires a referral (another phone call) from his primary doctor - and this is all just to schedule the appointment. It will be so interesting to see what the doctors have to say this time around.
We are getting ready to make some changes to Simon's schedule. Feeling like he needs more one on one interaction, something just a bit more that will have him working on the sensory things that he seems to be struggling with. Talking about our options. It is challenging. Our (Chris' and my) schedules are challenging. We know what we need to do. We just need to do it.
It was really interesting to meet with our educational autism specialist yesterday. She is so practical and right on and it is just awesome to have someone else that has observed him give us their input on what direction we should head with him (without telling us what to do). Her word: balance. You know I love that. So that is what we are looking for - balance between letting him be a kid and helping him be successful in this world that he just doesn't get at times (and you know what? I don't get it half the time either).
So change is good right? Remind this in a couple days please...

Balance, something we all struggle with. I understand where you are coming from.
I have three sons, age 9, 7, and 19 months. The oldest two were just diagnosed on Tuesday June 6th with high functioning autism aka Asperger Syndrome. We are just relieved to have an explanation as to why they are the way they are but would not have them any other way.

Totally sounds like you're doing the right thing. Change is hard. I'm kind of in a funk today because Lowell's classes through the school dist. special ed dept. are ending and he's about to start a new Autism Day treatment program. We're excited, but change is always hard! Hang in there. Can't wait to hear about how the eval goes for Simon. Seems like he's been making some really great progress. Cheers to all of you!

Hi Ali- Good luck with the doctor appointments. Hang in there. I hope you have a lot of support-sounds like you do from yourmom and others. It can be really challenging at times. Balance is what we allstrive for and most of us find it elusive. How did Chris's election go? We don't get the news from Oregon.

Can I just say how Happy he is? Every time I see a picture of that little boy he just looks so happy. Thank you for your education. Thank you for sharing something so personal. Thank you for your dedication. You are making a difference. I know you have educated me about autism and the links you provide are read. You are a voice that is heard. And that little boy is so cute! Bless you and your family.

Change is good - we are switching my children to a new "school" daycare in late August - its been a tough decision, so I say Change is Good alot - at the end of the day, you making changes out of your love and devotion for your son, so, change is good!!!
