Thank you.

Last night I finished a book I have been reading called The Memory Keeper's Daughter. One of my occupational hazards (along with a deep-ingrained love of reading) is picking up books at airports as I wait for my next flight. I have a huge stack here at home.
This was a heavy book. Emotionally heavy. But good. One that will stick with you after you are done with it (like another favorite of mine The Time Travelers Wife). Both are recommended if you are looking for something to add to your own personal list.
In the mail today I got the newest issue of Body + Soul magazine. It is the December issue and it is a good one. All about getting yourself in the right place before the holidays - finding balance - all that yummy stuff. Just looking through it tonight made me slow down a bit. Take a deeper breath.
Tonight when I crawl into bed I will begin a new book (oh man, one of my favorite things): The History of Love
And thank you again for all the birthday well wishes. It was a good day.

I just finished reading A History of Love. I really enjoyed it. I passed it on to my sister today so that I'd have someone to talk about it with. Hope you enjoy it.

Ali,
Have you read 'The 5 People You Meet In Heaven' by Mitch Albom? He worte 'Tuesdays With Morrie' as well - great books and the latter is very uplifting. Off to my book club on Wednesday evening - will recommend yours and see if I can get copies.
Jude ;)) Happy day to you.

Loved Time Traveler's Wife (cool it's being made into a movie---hope they do it justice!) and recently finished The Memory Keepers also. A recent read that with a complex human issue was My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult---very good book! Enjoy the rain!

Can't wait to hear what you thought of The History of Love. Please be sure to post about it when you're done. It was our book club's selection two months ago. Made for a very interesting evening of discussion. :) Memory Keeper is our current book, so I've got to start reading that one. Our last pick was definitely a keeper: My Sister's Heart by Chitra Divakaruni. Highly highly recommended.
Love the blog and the newsletter. Good luck to Chris and family with the election.

Happy belated 31st birthday :)
I loved the Time Traveler's Wife so I'll have to read The History of Love. Myself - I have heavy boots...I just finished "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer for my book group. Wonderful but sad.
OK - since I may not pist before tuesday - here's wishing extra luck to Chris - not that he needs it!!! May the best man win :)

I started reading The History of Love on our summer vacation. It was, however, a library book and I had to return it before I finished it!! ARRGH! What I read of it was really good! I'll have to pick up my own copy so I can finish it!
Hopeful thougts for Chris tomorrow! I hope he gets the "gig"!

Ooooh. I just saw that book (Memory Keepers Daughter) at the book store this weekend. It was a "staff favorite" and it looked wonderful. I always love hearing what people are reading. It's one of my favorite questions! Right now I'm reading Julia Cameron's auto-biography (the author of The Artist's Way), Floor Sample. I'm about halfway through. It's a quick read and provides insight into her tumultuous, albiet creative, life. Hope you had a good weekend.

I haven't posted here for a while, but I'm sneaking some browsing time at work and allowed myself to stop by and have a good old catch up. Really just wanted to say that the more I read your thoughts on life and family and keeping it all simple, the more it resonates with me. I'm trying to make a few transitions in my life right now and I'm always inspired by your take on things. So simply, thank you:)

I can't tell you how many times I've picked up Memory Keeper's Daughter, but I have so many unread books at home already! I, too love airport bookstores (as well as the bookstore on the Vancouver/Nanaimo ferry, when I visit my grandparents on Vancouver Island), and was very disappointed to discover that there was no bookstore in the commuter terminals at either San Jose or LAX when I passed through them this weekend. Instead, I read the Dec. Body + Soul on the plane. Good issue.
November birthdays abound in my family: It was my littlest sister's on Sunday, my Mom's today, mine at the end of the month. I hope you had a really wonderful day!
