Wow.

Amazing. Wonderful. Awesome. Ok, there's a couple more words.
Thank you for all the kind & enthusiastic comments and well wishes.
This is such a huge deal. Being a political newcomer and beating an incumbent is really tough. Chris worked so very long and hard for this with the support of such an amazing staff - I am so proud of him and all the people who helped make this a reality. And I am even more excited about the work that he will be beginning now - such an amazing opportunity to do good.
Today we are taking a deep breath. We are celebrating. We are planning. We are smiling.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

many congrats to him!
when my grandfather was in his early 30s, he became a democratic state representative for indiana (a seriously red state). he held that position for several terms until running for congress. he became a congressman and held that position for 16 years.
he wanted the job because he wanted a chance to do right by people, to help government do the right thing, have people of faith in a position of influence, have people of compassion in a position of influence. during his time in washington, he marched with dr king for civil rights, he was on a subcommittee studying ufos (?!), and he personally created and lobbied for a national emergency number. you now call it 911.
chris may be a young man, and he may be just starting this ride, but today if you are young, have values, have a passion for your dreams, and have a heart of compassion and equality, you can do amazing things with your life.
the tide is turning. people like him are going to be the political stars of the future. i think the country is fed up with being run by heartless corporations, and people are ready to put hearts and souls in government.
godspeed to chris, and to you as you support him and encourage him. it was an amazing thing to grow up in a family that was politically-aware and civically-minded. you are giving simon an incredible legacy.

Congratulations Chris. You were not in my district but I contributed to your campaign and am very happy about the democratic victories in both the state and the nation. GOod luck to you and Ali & Simon. Good luck getting along with the opposition in this state, that will be a real challenge.

Congrats to both of you, Chris and Ali. Had I been living in Oregon, I would have voted for you. I did (in my mind). I woke up this morning and not only found that Claire McCaskill won in the State of Missouri in a very tough race (which is wonderful) but that you won, too. Good luck to all of you as you travel down this new, exciting path. Enjoy the ride! We know you'll be a great addition to the House, Chris.

This day, this one very special day, is the culmination of so many things. Of a man with a vision, a dream, of a future that is better and brighter and filled with possibility. Of a woman who believes both in the vision her man sees and in the man himself. Of a little boy who loves his mama and daddy and shares their values and their joy. Of friends and partners who gave of their time and their energy and their very spirit to help the man get the chance to bring his dream to the people. And of two parents, who spent a lifetime raising a boy to become a man who dares to dream.
How wonderful to be part of such a special day. Thank you Ali, for sharing this with us. Thank you Chris for inspiring each of us to make our own dreams come true. Oregon is lucky to have both of you.
