Everyday stuff.
Tags:Everyday stuff is so cool. Been taking lots of photos this week as I document a week in my life for my CKU class. I am finding that I am taking some of my best pictures. Something about always having a camera close at hand and taking those shots that you would normally just pass by is really having an impact on me.
And in case you are wondering, the lens used for this shot is the best $75 you can spend. It is a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the one I keep on my camera most of the time. I love it. Chris, on the other hand, does not love it - he prefers the regular lens (Canon 28-105
">Canon 28-105) because he likes to be able to zoom in and out (the 50mm is fixed meaning you have to move your body to get closer or farther away).
Another thing having an impact on me right now are all the comments and words left on the one little word post. Wow. I am compiling a list and will share it with you all on Monday.
Other stuff:
Heading to Anaheim for CHA or live in the surrounding areas? One of my favorite designers/artists is going to be teaching classes at The Scrapbook Oasis. You can take a class from Kristina Contes on Thursday or Friday at 7pm. Class samples and info are located on the right hand side of the Scrapbook Oasis blog.
If you live in/around the Portland area, don't forget to sign up for my Discover Home class at the Portland Creating Keepsakes Convention. Classes are available on both Friday and Saturday mornings from 8:30am-11:30am. Hope to see some of you there.

When I read the newsletter on Thurs. am, my first, I got so excited (we're talking top of your voice shower singing excited!) I am not really a word person. I am color and texture, but this fits me well.
Last year my word was "be green", as in Kermit the Frog green. This past year I have learned to be very conscious of not being judgmental. This year I don't have a word, I have 7 words.
6 Mo. ago, my husband called me from Austin where he was working and went on and on about a movie he had just watched. "The Lady In the Water." I said how nice. Remembering how much he liked it, Santa left it in his stocking. I watched it about a week ago. I laughed, I jumped in startlement, I tried to figure out the riddle, I cried (hard), and when the movie ended I was filled with the most beautiful feeling. I don't have words to describe it. During the next few days, the story ran through my head & the beautiful feeling was still there. On the way home from the grocery store one evening, I stopped at a light and looked around and I saw. The beautiful feeling became a phrase.

Hi Ali... Remember me? I was asking you about your camera when you came to Illinois. I got the digital Rebel XT for Christmas! And my husband just ordered me the 50 mm lens tonight. Can't wait to start using it. Love your pictures and your words.
Looking forward to seeing you in Detroit.

Yep, a 50mm is the greatest. I think the real "power" of it is that it gives you a view of things very near to what we see with our eyes. No zooming to crop things out. Nothing fancy. Just the real stuff. What you are REALLY seeing. I'm not at all suprised that you are diggin' the 50 because it is so "everyday." Keep those real photos coming!

Love the toes. Have a random question for you? Are you a standing or a sitting scrapper? If you stand, how high is your table/counter?
I'm thinking of changing to standing but imagine one's back might hurt ?
Looking forward to a glimpse of your studio in the new place when you get a chance to get settled.
Thanks for the word challenge---mine is "move"

Hi Ali,
I did your classes at Kiwiscraps in Welington NZ - and love you! Do you know if you can do any of your classes over the internet this year? I saw a kit from a CKU home study last year. I have signed up for Heidi Swapp's "A year to remmeber" and am so excited!
Bye.

Hi Ali,
I got my 50 mm lens a while back but my shots have been blurry. I finally talked to a guy at the camera store who told me to adjust my ISO (duh). What ISO setting are you using for these great indoor pics?
My word for the year is cherish. Cherish myself, my husband, my kids, my stuff.
Thanks for the inspiration,
katie

Hi Ali,
Think your ezine is great - inspiring. Inspired that "it is OK." Just to do it -imperfect.. but done. Story told.
Just wondering how to post a layout for your one little word challenge. I researched your old challenges. It seems that you have to have a blog?? Is this right.
My word for 2006 was "FRUITION" Things came to fruition for us...the baby we had waited for, the renovation done (almost!) But Fruition is also about acting on things, getting things done.
2007's word is "intimacy". Feel slightly shy about typing it down! Aim: to make sure I make time for loving and being with all those who are dear, keep them close, let them know that they are precious, lay aside tasks and jobs for hugs, laughter and real heart to hearts.
Thanks,
Lyndall

Love those little feet! The idea of taking 'mundane, everyday' photos is a great one. Sounds like something I need to try. Thanks.

Ali, thanks for the tip on the lens. I've been taping pictures like a tourist lately and it's improving things by leaps abd bounds. Thanks for your post, too. When is the next time you think you will be teaching in Canada?
