Three Things : Fabric (& a giveaway)

One of my favorite parts of my recent creativity travel was working with fabric in my projects. I have been playing with bits of it with my sewing machine and starting to collect small pieces here and there (haven't gotten into any clothes sewing yet).
Here's a fabric layout I made in Christina Lazar Schuler's class at Inspired called Textile Anthology (check her Etsy store for available kits):
She talked about making an entire album of fabric pages (the one above is 8x8). I like that idea and I also love that this sort of page can just go in my regular albums as well (put it into a page protector or add grommets to fit to your album rings).
So why fabric? I like to think of it in the same way I think of pattern paper - a decoration. A bit of color. The cool thing about fabric is that it also lends texture to your project. We can all use a bit more texture in our lives. Fabric can be added to a layout with adhesive or stitched on by hand (I actually really liked the process of hand-stitching the photo on the layout above) or with a machine (quick and easy). Try using it in place of patterned paper on your next project. It's also especially great for covering chipboard albums.

Here are three of my favorite sites for checking out fabric include Sew Mama Sew (love searching by color), Purl Soho (especially loving their contemporary collection), and Repodepot. You can also search etsy for vintage fabric sellers like Shabby Vintage Mom who has some cute bundles of vintage fabrics.

I am a quilter as well as a scrapbooker, but I rarely combine the two crafts. Perhaps Donna's book will be the inspiration I need.

What a fun book to have! Fabric has been on my mind ... a couple blogs mentioned this book and/or the author from the recent inspired workshop. I have really curious about the contents/projects featured! Seems like a fun way to combine quilting and papercrafting.

I'd love to try . . . . at this point I am TOTALLY intimidated to use fabric. When I actually sew a button on something I feel like I have accomplished a lot. Pretty lame hu? I'm sure Donna's new book is as fabulous as her others and would help me explore & create with FABRIC. (Which could then be trouble - another addiction, like ribbon, rub-ons, stamps . . . . need I go on?)

I have no idea how to sew but for a long time I've been wanted to learn. Scrapbooking is a huge passion and being able to incorporate it into learning a new skill will be fun! I love the idea of a fabric album! Thanks Ali!

I love fabric and seem to collect it! I have started to use bits of it on my layouts. Next project is to jazz up my notepadds which some fancy covers...

I am shocked by the amount of comments on this post LOL I love fabric in scrapbooking but I have a hard time incorporating it to my layouts, for lack of skills really, but I still gotta give it a go! :)
