I've got a couple things on my mind this week as I create a layout a day.
The first is to try to incorporate at least one piece of paper per day from my collection of papers and junk that have come in the mail or I have picked up while out and about. Here's a peek at those in their glass planter:
The one I picked out for this page is a piece of vellum which came off a mailer from Oregon State University:
"This amazing place" seemed a fitting title for a peek at what Simon is "into" these days.
In starting to create this page I browsed through my recent photos and came up with two that related to what he is into this month. I like the idea of picking a single word + coming up with content revolving around that theme. The journaling is simple: handwritten statements similar to what you would see in a list. For this sort of page I like to give myself enough room to write, but not too much that it becomes more than it needs to be.
When I am handwriting like I did above, I simply begin and keep coming up with statements about what Simon is into until I get to the end and then I stop. No pressure that I will forget something...if I do I can always do another page or add that memory into a different story.
This layout is a very simple design. Four, 4 inch x 4 inch squares. One for the title, two for photos, and the fourth is home to the journaling. I stitched around the outside to add some texture. There are lots of things I could have done along the bottom of the page (added stamping or patterned paper, or any number of embellishments) but I decided to be happy with it how it was and call it a night.
Into the page protector it goes & on to another layout tomorrow.

Love it, Ali! And I love that you left the negative space at the bottom. Definitely doesn't need anything extra. I, too, have a 'found papers' file (some with scraps ripped from my art and architecture design schools pamphlets when I was applying to colleges...um...12 years ago...those definitely need to be used!)

good job! I like that you didn't add any additional embellishment to the bottom. At times we as scrappers can get a little embelish CRAZY!

What a simple, yet so meaningful page. I really like the way it turned out. I may try that except, perhaps with a pic of each of my 3 children for the squares, and then the last square for journaling. Can't wait to see the rest of the week's pages.

I have never incorporated anything that I receive in the mail...very good "green" idea, not sure that I could "make it work" for me, but this is why I enjoy your blog - lot's of thinking "outside the box"...

Nice layout! I especially like how your container of junk mail is sitting next to the typewriter in the picture with Simon...a nice little reminder for you, the designer, that you used something from it on the layout. :)

I like the idea of putting those found papers in a glass container so you can see them. I also like using those found papers too. I was at MOMA this weekend and picked up a notebook called the Rescued Paper Notebook. It's from a company called Sukie. You can see it at http://www.sukie.co.uk/resc.html but also check out the rest of their site. I think you might like them. I found them pretty inspiring. I'm thinking of making a few myself. Cheers.
