Father's Day Traditions
Tags:Happy Friday & thanks for all the supportive + celebratory comments yesterday.
This Sunday is Father's Day. We don't have any specific plans yet so I was wondering if anyone was interested in sharing their favorite Father's Day traditions? Maybe it is something you do every year or something special you are planning for this Sunday specifically.
I asked Chris what he wanted to do for Father's Day and he said work :) and read.
Don't forget that my first round of Designer Digitals templates and brushes will be released this Sunday (they release new products every Sunday).
[ The "Happy Father's Day" digital brush on the photo above comes from the Holidays + Celebrations Hand-Drawn Brush Set. ]

The boys and I usually make him breakfast in bed. While he is eating breakfast, they like to hand him the presents and cards. My husband loves to be fussed over and for a month before Father's Day, he starts hinting around about what are the plans for him.
My husband is a huge baseball fan. I found out that the Orioles were playing the Pirates (his favorite team) on Father's Day. So I bought tickets for all of us to go. He will be shocked that I bought a ticket for myself. I hate to go to pro baseball games (too low for me). But it will mean everything to him that we will be going as a family. He loves his family and his children. When I was pregnant, the day we found out that I was expecting twins, he said "I want a pitcher and a catcher". It didn't matter if they were boys or girls, he was determined he was getting from God, a pitcher and a catcher. The boys are now, twelve and he got what he wished for.
I enjoyed reading everyone's comments. Tamara's comment about her father-in-law brought tears to my eyes. Thanks so much for asking us to share our plans.

I miss my father very much, so this is always a hard time of year for me. (he passed away 6 years ago when I was 22). I know he wouldn't want us to dwell though, so we will drop of some flowers at the cemetary and then go about our business.

Usually every year we make a special breakfast (and this year my DS who's 5 can help!) and give him his cards and/or gifts that we made or bought him.
He gets to pick how he spends the day, it's usually spent with just the three of us hanging around the house or taking the boat out and spending it out on the water.
This year he didn't really want anything, so i am "forcing" him to head over to his poppy's house who he hasn't seen since Easter and he's been meaning to get out there but with his job being hectic lately he hasn't had any time. I've got his dad and mom meeting us there, so we'll all spend a nice afternoon eating some hotdogs and burgers with the 4 generations!
When he found out my plan he couldn't have been more happier!

We'll be planning our Father's day traditions this year and will be able to truly celebrate, without regrets, for the first time. After ten years of waiting we finally have pictures of our daughter and hope to head to China next month to meet her!
May I also just comment at this time that the worst quote ever is:
'Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy....'
Not always true unfortunately...

This year we are traveling to celebrate Father's Day with my dad. He is so excited about it! We plan to cookout, swim and just enjoy being together. Money is tight this year, so we made homemade gifts -- a grilling apron with the kids handprints on it and a photo cube with photos and drawings that the kids made. Weather is supposed to be great this weekend - yeah!

I am just begining to start a new gift tradition. Last year we purchased a giant uber sized golf club for my husband. This year we found an enormous TV remote and an oversized coffee mug (the one at M's you may have seen)we will decorate that with rub-ons. I am always atracted to anything mini, but the over sized things make me laugh! Luckily my husband can take a good joke and he treasures everything from the kids.
I have to say the tent idea with just Dads and kids is a very inviting idea. Thanks for sharing.

My hubby loves to canoe, unfortunately we don't get to go as much as we'd like. But on father's day we go to a neighborhood pond and have a picnic and paddle around a bit. Nice easy little deal.

Homemade applesauce donuts and fresh squeezed orange juice! Along with "The Washington Post", "The New York Times", as well as the local newspaper. And then we head to the out to see a baseball game. Some years it is a professional game, other years, it's our extended family in Grandma's backyard. And afterwards, once the children are tucked in for the night...a brand spanking new book along with a glass of wine. He swears he doesn't want the routine to ever change, we like it too.

This year - due to scheduling conflicts and the hot, hot weather - we're doing a father's day breakfast by the pool. We'll be honoring DH, DD, and DB. I'm really excited about the new tradition, and I love eating breakfast outside. I'm going tomorrow to buy some special little table things. Hope Simon's dad has a great day on Sunday!

This is my hubby's first Father's Day and we are going to the SF Giants vs Oakland A's game. Maybe this could be the start of a tradition :)

All American AA baseball we'll go see. It's family friendly and affordable. Since it's Father's Day we'll even actually purchase lunch at the ballpark, not just our traditional 4th inning goodie.
