Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Hi Ali ! Congratulations on the new little love in your life that will be blessing you with her presence soon :) I too am expecting my third little bundle any day now... everyday I pinch myself as my current baby is eight !
Like a lot of mom's out there - I hardly think of what I do everyday as Super. But when you think about it ..it really is incredible that as a mom I am truly able to do all I do in one day. Sometimes it boggles the mind !
As a mom to a 10 year old son with High Functioning Autism and to a diva 8 year old daughter who is going on 16 .. my days are full. I also have a step son who is 7 and a new little sweet pea on the way.
I get up early to iron everyone's clothes and make breakfast. This is followed by getting to the bus on time .. or driving two children to two separate schools. Coming home to take care of the wild dogs and take care of the house and what ever other errands that fill the daily plate. Then it is off to picking up the children..and off to karate - dance - sport of the season or religion classes. The mad rush of homework and making dinner soon follows as does the marathon bathing sessions and attempts to settle everyone in for the night. Not before chasing the monsters from under the bed , saying prayers ,reminders of teeth brushing and flossing ... and 800 kisses goodnight. At about 9:30 pm I finally sit down put my feet up.. pat my belly and wonder how I made it through the day :)
The Super best part is ... I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Just being a Mom makes me and every other Mother a Superhero. It's a wonderful and rewarding role to have.
Thanks for the great giveaway and for getting us thinking about how important we all are.

I'm going to say that my super power is the ability to keep ahold of myself even being a SAHM and Wife. I have a lot of friends who say they have lost their sense of self after becoming a wife and mother but, I have been able to keep a hold of my "self" and just incorporate it into the other aspects.

Love this question. My superpower would be feeding friends. I love cooking and serving them dinner. They give me much more in return when they enjoy what I make.

Well the first one is that I am great at cleaning CDs when they get scratched/dusty... My other one is my ability to gauge how other people are feeling... I'm good at observing physical clues that betray emotion.
Gorgeous necklaces!

When my children were little, they were doing something in another room that sounded like trouble. When I told them to stop, they asked "How did you know what we were doing?" I told them "I can hear around corners."
This has become my joke superpower in our family.

First up, the world is small. I had no idea Andrea inspired you blog. I have been following her blog for quite some time (as I do yours) and find you both quite inspirational. It's very cool that you are connected.
I can also attest that the Superhero necklaces are great. I've given a few as gifts (but, interestingly, never one to myself) to delighted recipients.
Okay, my superhero power is providing air cover. I hold off the chaotic forces of the universe so my family can move forward in peace and with confidence. Hmm. Maybe I need a set of bracelets, ala Wonder Woman . . . .

I listen. Sometimes people just need to know that someone really hears them and they can be healed.
I listen.

My 'superpower' wouldn't be anything concrete (as in seeing a tangible result) but rather mine would have to be organization, being thorough, and being dependable. If I commit to something I will never let you down and I will see it through the entire way.

I am a teacher and the power that I have is the amazing endurance that gets me through my day! I teach high school Latin, 6 periods, all levels (1, 2, 3, Advanced Placement) with no prep period in my day. Everyone that isn't a teacher thinks that what we do is easy. Let me tell you, it's not! Lesson planning, grading papers, essays, talking to parents, testing, state standards and all the other hoops we have to jump through on a daily basis is overwhelming at times. And then we have our state telling us we might get paid with an IOU because our state budget is so messed up! And then to fix the state budget lets cut education first and fire a bunch of teachers on top of the budget cuts!
I do it because I love my subject (I get to talk about the Romans all day!) and my students inspire me to be the best person I can be. They are amazing young men and women. So I just endure for them (all 190 of them!) :)

Loving this blog! My superpower would have to be my child powers - no matter where I go I seem to be surrounded by children - which is no bad thing since I am an elementary teacher.

What am I good at? Well, I can't come up with the right word right now, but I guess it would be getting something done when you have to. My family is always saying, "I'd like to do this." And I say, "Well, if you really want to do it, we need to do this and this and this." And if they let me, I'll help them do it. I'll remind them to make the phone call and do whatever I can to help.
I recently did my sister's bridal shower and I felt like superwoman! Ever since I've had kids, it's been all about them. I think I do a decent job, but you second guess yourself so much.
This is the first time in a long time that I had something else big to do and I think I did a great job! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it and she loved it!

I think this is a great thing to have people actually say out loud! I think one of my main superpowers is working well with children. I am a teacher and a mom and interacting with kids brings me lots of joy. I am also learning that I have the superpower of being flexible and adapting. Life has brought a lot of unexpected change with it and I have learned to roll with change and keep on living. That is a hard earned superpower that I feel very proud of!
