Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

I have three superpowers.
One: I'm a fantastic girlfriend. I'm really proud of the way I treat my man.
Two: I have a good eye for color. This is especially handy in color coordinating outfits (I have a real gift), decorating, and scrapbooking.
Three: I don't see this one in myself, but I constantly hear how strong I am. I've had a lot happen to me in my twenty years of life and was forced to grow up younger than I should have. But I have pushed through it and out of suffering comes growth. Always.

What a beautiful necklace and love hearing how people connect on the www!
My superpower is making it through each day keeping some sense of "normlicy" in our busy home and getting up the next day to do it again! Our home includes my 5 kids (3 5 year little boys, a 7 year old little girl and a 9 year old little girl!), my wonderful husband and myself. I was once told I look "pretty normal" as some well-meaning stranger stared at my tribe of little kids. My husband and I just walked away laughing...pretty normal....what's that!

wow, that's a great question. i haven't been feeling very super at much lately but after spending a little time thinking about it, i think running - not that i'd ever be going to the olympics or anything but i've been running since i was in grade 3 which means i just finished up 22 years of running. i think that's something to be proud of. :)

Love the necklaces! I am great at doing research, as well as advocating a simpler, more natural parenting style.

Well, I have the ability to know where the things my husband and daughters misplace. It's kind of scarey really! Comes in handy though :o)

Hmmm...I guess my superpower is that I can stick with something until the (sometimes bitter!) end! I never thought I could run a marathon, but I did it!

My superpower? The power to listen carefully and respectfully. Whether I am listening to my students, colleagues, family or friends, I try to listen with an open mind and heart.

Well yes, my first reaction was that I don't have superpowers but then I sat down and gave it some thought. I don't know why it is, but women NEVER like to blow their own trumpets. Even though there is a LOT of blowing to be done!
So here are mine :-)
My husband tells me that I have a super high pain threshold. Big babies, no drugs. (My last baby was 9 lbs 7ozs. He was induced two weeks early because my OBGYN said he was going to be over 11 lbs, LOL).
I beat 3 years of Post-Partum depression after my second child. When I say that hole was BLACK, DARK and LONELY, that is a huge understatement.
I also decided that I was going to lose all the weight I had gained so I went on to lose 83 lbs in weight during that PPD time and dared to get pregnant again three years later.
I asked my kids what I am good at:
Darcey 6 1/2 said "Singing, baking and making her bed, lol"
Cameron 5 1/2 said "Playing Mario Cart and being silly"
When I asked Noah 2 1/2 "Babylicious, what do you like Mummy to do?" He said "'Tiss Mom, Hug, cueeze" Which to you means he likes me to kiss him, hug him and squeeze him. LOL Then he took off singing "Mama Mia, Here I go again....." LOL. Can't believe he knows that song!
My Dad calls my Mum 'Phenomenal Phyllis',even though her name is Jean. The name pretty much explains itself! Now my DH taken to calling me that and when I asked him why he said that "I get an awful lot done in a day". My first reaction was to get it on paper! LOL, the second was he is a sweet boy :-) and tells the truth........hee hee.

Mine is making the hubby smile. Sometimes he comes home from work and just seems so defeated and tired. I let him have his "decompression" time and then I just give him my heart and mind. He needs that. And if I give him a hour he's usually back to the hubby that makes ME smile!

My super power is being patient enough that I let 25 five year olds paint Eric Carle paper today - - - at once, using three colors per paper and about two gallons of tempura paint. It was an explosion of color and paint, and spilled out into the hallway to make room for it to dry. Tomorrow we start making the Very Hungry Caterpiller with our papers, which will be turned into notecard sized stationary through the magic of offset printing. I don't actually fly, but my sudents wouldn't be suprised if I could.

My superpower is empathy and support! Sometimes I assume that everyone has empathy, but I've learned that isn't true. I love to be able to listen to and understand the people I work with and the greatest joy I have is when I know that they feel supported. Today was a really great affirmation of that, and this post fit in well!

I can see through walls...at least my children thought so when they were little and I could catch them doing something without even seeing them.
Really, I am very organized. Love organizations.

Love the necklace now for my "power" as a typical Brit I find it hard to talk about myself but do find that I tend to be the "rock" when friends have problems or just need help.

efficienc -- the ability to organize and process something to do it in the most efficient manner. It's just second nature to me, but I've had other remard on it -- now i just need to figure out how to make some money at it.
