Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show

First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:

What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.

Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...

• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.

Lom5
Stacyj

• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.

BANNER PACS

• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).

To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.

I'm growing by leaps and...blogs. Starting a blog and sharing myself more "publically" was a leap for me, and one I'm taking baby leaps with...
Also, leaving my job this summer to be home for my children and more involved in their school. A tough choice given the economy, but a necessary one for my family.
    Thanks for the awesome giveaways!

My word for this year is Fearless, so this is totally on target for me. The biggest, bravest step was submitting an article to a magazine in October. The first leap. Now I need to submit another. And another. Just keep going. And I will.

My most recent leap was attempting to make homemade biscuits (again). My first attempt was less than stellar and after many years (and MUCH teasing) I finally decided to try again. They weren't too bad this time.

A big leap was to take a full time kinder job in a new town. Then, to buy a house in that new town. I barely new what we were doing, but we were doing it and it has worked out perfectly so far. =)

My most recent leap was deciding to take my last two MBA classess... at the same time! I needed to finish before I had to start travelling for work, so now I am working on my thesis AND taking a project management class on top of all of my other obligations.

One of the most recent leaps, has been to let our son become more independent and being ok with it. You want to see your child become independent and you push them in that direction, and then when it happens it's kind of scary. So far, we have all survived this transition! On to the next leap!

My recent leap was finally having some much needed surgery and allowing other family memebers to take care of my kids and home. It's hard when you have a Type A personality to allow others to take care of YOU!!!
Relax and Let Others needs to be my saying for the year!

Our big leap this past year has been selling
our small business and staying on with new
company under contract. We went from having
a lot of freedom in our jobs to having to follow someone else's rules. It has been
a big adjustment but have realized recently that it was a smart move given the recent economy.
I recently started reading your blog. I
sign on every day now to read it. I have
    enjoyed all your creative ideas.

I'm not much of a leaper (although I did go skydiving ONCE... 99% peer pressure). Anyway, several years ago my husband lost his job through layoffs and we were devistated. We quickly assessed our finances, did some refinancing and rebudgeting and were back on our feet. It took me some time but I realized an important lesson about need vs want. To this day, I hear our kids say "I don't need that Mom, it's a waste of money." Not sure I would have heard those same words had we not gone through what we did. It was a good experience for all of us.

My hubby is in the military and we decided to move to South Korea as a family. We volunteered & that was a leap of faith...we are SO happy to be together! Trying to travel & experience as much as we can. Our first 2 trips will be to China & Thailand. That's another leap for me -- I haven't traveled much outside the US. Making memories...

I started sharing my pregnancy at 10 weeks. I had a miscarriage 9 months, and had been trying for almost two years. I just wanted people to know, while it was real, just in case it stops being real.

I just took a leap and committed to learning a new software, and then be responsible to train the staff. This is a leap because I am not a computer application person, I am the controller, and this is really out of my box. I am however very excited that manamgement has the faith to give me this opportunity and responsibility.

I enjoy taking little leaps like trying new foods. But recently I've taken a few bigger leaps. I've let my guard down to share more personal stuff with a friend. I have quite a few friends but none that are super close that I can talk about everything with until now. I've also taken a leap & moved from serving in our nursery at church to working with the 3rd graders as a small group leader & God has great things in store for both me & the children.

Hmmm. I love little things like this that make me think, but am having a hard time coming up with something recent off the top of my head. I enjoy encouraging others via email, etc., but sometimes fear that they will think I'm wacky, so a little tiny step of courage is letting go of what others will think when I share my heart, and clicking "send."
    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Ali:
Love the February kit. Read your blog daily...such an inspiration.
Anyway, my most recent leap/act of courage, was to make the decision to stop having children. I have 2 wonderful children now. But my husband and I wanted more. Well I have lost 4 - 1 miscarriage, and 3 ectopics - one life threatening. The doctor's keep telling me that there is no reason for this to occur, and I can keep trying.
It has been a very emotional roller coaster, and difficult act to let go of a dream. But I know that this is for the best, and that I need to take comfort in the fact that I have 2 healthy, happy kids, and they have a healthy, alive mother.

My company outsourced my team this past June and I lost my job after 9 years with this company. I was lost, I am a single mom, although I have a partner now I raised and support my son without much help from his father. I owned a house and was struggling each and everyday. I was offered a job and took that leap of faith and it worked out better than I could have hoped, then I found out I was as many weeks pregnant as I was newly employed. I was terrified I would lose my new job. As hard as I worked to get my house a few years ago it was to hard to maintain and although at times it feels like I failed or gave up, my partner and I chose to sell the house to finish paying my debts that had incurred and to start over. This is my biggest leap, we've been able to move in with my mother and stay while I have the baby and get reestablished. It's terrifying and thrilling all at the same time. Life changes so quickly and takes you in directions you never thought you would go. 2009 is my year for personal Growth, my word that I chose for the year.
